Maiden songs everybody seems to like but you dislike?

Are they? Never heard anyone mentioning these songs among their favourite.
Thread is not about Maiden songs we dislike in general, but popular fan faves we dislike. The Parchment, Isle of Avalon and the mentioned ones don't really fall into that category I think.
They don't have to be someone's favorite to be popular. All of those I mentioned are popular with the fandom. Total Eclipse is regularly talked about, especially in comparison to Gangland and how the former should've been on the album rather than the latter.
Sun & Steel is on one of the "golden age" albums, so it automatically gets a boost and unlike Quest For Fire which gets memed and clowned on because of the lyrics, it doesn't have any obvious shortcomings; so yeah, it is rather popular overall.
Speed Of Light is pretty popular as well. Isle Of Avalon is consistently seen as one of the best songs on TFF. The Parchment gets a ton of love as well, at least here on the board and on the subreddit.

I specifically chose to mention those songs because they fit with the criteria of the thread. If it were just about songs I dislike, regardless of popularity I would've chosen different ones. You can go through the song rankings subforum and see how the various songs fare, if you're curious. Obviously very anecdotal and not a big sample, but still quite interesting.

I used to dislike RTTH, then I liked it, and now I dislike it again. Annoyingly simplistic melody, disco beat, blah. Similarly I enjoyed NOTB until somebody on Maidenfans mentioned that it's a completely unmelodic song and (thanks for that) now I really can't stand it either.

I thought your beef with NOTB when you mentioned it would be that the main riff is essentially "When The Saints Go Marching In" lol

I genuinely have no idea what you're talking about, so either it wasn't me or I was really drunk when I said that.

Afraid To Shoot Strangers
I just don't get the love for this song. There's 2 admittedly awesome lead melodies n the song, but of its 7 minute runtime there's not even 3 minutes worth listening to.

The song plonks away doing basically nothing for nearly 3 minutes before anything interesting happens.
The amazing leads are sandwiched between the boring intro, forgettable solos, and Bruce shouting "Afraid to Shoot Strangers" alot.

Can I Play with Madness
Just a dull song with the cheese factor cranked up to 10. Don't understand the appeal.
my first memories of listening maiden was seventh son in 1991 and 92 fear of the dark was huge for me so afraid to shoot strangers for me its a masterpiece.

I phrased that weirdly, my bad. In your previous comment you mentioned your issues with RTTH and NOTB. While I was reading it, once I saw NOTB I thought your issue would've been that the main riff sounds like When The Saints Go Marching In. Hope that made it clearer, was just a funny association in my brain lol

That said, curious to know what you mean by unmelodic. The vocals? The guitars? What exactly are your issues with it?

I dunno. I just noticed after it was pointed out that the vocal line is just yelling in key and the guitars solely seem to mostly just play notes rather than a riff or anything melodic. The middle part sort of gets there, but it's short and mostly copying the bassline so it barely counts. It's not a very good song, really. A fine tune, but not really much of a song.

Appreciate the response!

Journey man and most of dance of death album. The second part of the album for me is really bad. I only listen from time to time dance of death and wildest dreams and that one because bruce singing. Worst album in their career by far for me.

I get your point, dickinson1978, however, the thread was more about songs a lot of fans like but disliked by the one or other, and I really can't see many people in here rating the second half of the DOD album high. But anyway, speaking about DOD, I have to say that No More Lies is one of these type of songs for me. Its totally boring, and having seen several shows of their 2003 tour, I have to say that the performances of NML belong to the most boring concert minutes ever for me.

Sun And Steel has its flaws - the ''instrumental section'' and the ''solo''. It feels like a filler full on.

No More Lies is a strong live song, the only boring (and weak) thing is the chorus, which is effective (at least) live.

Number is a riff-based song without prominent melodies, which is atypical for them. And from the classics.
