Maiden songs everybody seems to like but you dislike?

Afraid To Shoot Strangers
I just don't get the love for this song. There's 2 admittedly awesome lead melodies n the song, but of its 7 minute runtime there's not even 3 minutes worth listening to.

The song plonks away doing basically nothing for nearly 3 minutes before anything interesting happens.
The amazing leads are sandwiched between the boring intro, forgettable solos, and Bruce shouting "Afraid to Shoot Strangers" alot.

Can I Play with Madness
Just a dull song with the cheese factor cranked up to 10. Don't understand the appeal.

I have a lot of those.
There is one song in particular I hate and it's in my favourite reunion album too. Blood Brothers.
Now there are a couple I really don't care about and they're definitely hits. I skip them almost every time I listen to the respective album nowadays.
2 Minutes to Midnight: never cared for this one
Can I play with Madness: It's the only SSOASS song I don't like. I don't hate it, but meh
Run to the Hills: being overplayed doesn't help
That's all I think. The other Maiden songs I don't like are disliked by most fans too, like the Assassin, the Apparition, Angel and the Gambler, Gangland, Hooks in You and some others for sure.
I have no problem with the Trooper, IM or FOTD although they are so overplayed. Maybe 666 is another one that I find boring.

I think that in my case the songs would be:

The Trooper, I don’t dislike that song, I love it, but fucking hell it sounds everywhere whenever you mention metal music

Another Life, great song, but I don’t know why I don’t like hearing it, probably I don’t make good chemistry with that song

Heaven Can Wait, SIT is my favorite Maiden album of all time, love the song, specially Adrian’s majestic solo, but the exaggerated repetition of the chorus makes the song a little bit boring and kind of annoying (edit: heaven can wait, heaven can wait til another day 37482 times!!)

Run to the Hills, same thing with HCW

Flight of Icarus, I love that song but the main riff seems so simple to me, it sometimes gets boring for me to hear

Different World, good song, but the one I like the least from AMOLAD, I think that I also don’t have good chemistry with it

Only one song springs to mind and that is To Tame a Land. I think it has some moments, but the song never really goes anywhere and trickles out at the end.

I think there is a reason they have never returned to it. It probably bored the audience to tears in 1983 and Bruce couldn’t get all the words out. The other epics from the 80’s and beyond are much more interesting.

I’m not a fan of blood brothers. I always skip it when listening to BNW or any live album it’s on.

It’s not a terrible song by any means but what really puts me off is the absolute cringe fest that Bruce spouts off every time it’s played live.

This whole thing about “we are metal brothers, we are all blood brothers” just makes me wanna throw up. Harsh sentiment I know but the whole thing come across like us metal fans are the outcasts of society and shunned upon so we have to stick together and it’s us vs the world and to me is just super level cringe.

I don’t feel like I’m looked down upon because I listen to metal. I have a respectable job and loads of friends who don’t listen to metal and just a small selection who do. When I tell people I’m into metal and show them my tattoos I pretty much get a positive response.

I agree upon the cringe thing. But the song itself is fantastic, with Janick's probably finest solo, so I'm happy anytime it is played live.

Total Eclipse, Sun & Steel and Speed Of Light are among my least favorite songs Maiden have ever written. As far as I'm aware those are generally rather popular with the fandom.

There are other songs, like Aces High for example, which are incredibly popular but don't really click with me. Same with Sea Of Madness or Stranger In A Strange Land (though both of those have phenomenal solos/instrumental sections). Isle Of Avalon doesn't do anything for me either; it has some cool parts but the song overall never clicked with me.

And I know that it might seem like sacrilege, but Paschendale is just fine to me. The tapping lick is genuinely awesome, the lyrics are mostly great, but the main riff and some of the melodies are far too simplistic for what the song is going for, imo. Long, brooding and dark war epics were done much better on AMOLAD for me.

The Parchment is far too long and it either needed to be several minutes shorter or it should've placed the tempo change several minutes prior. Even though I don't really dislike it, it's the only Maiden song where I ever felt its length in a negative way. The first few times I heard it I looked at the playtime thinking it's going to be over any minute only to see that there's still 5 or so minutes left.

When the wild wind blows is that song for me. The Clansman maybe too.

I can see it for the former, since its changes throughout the song aren't that drastic. It it retains the same melody for a good chunk (though it changes the dynamics). The later sections build upon the same ideas so I can see someone finding it monotonous and being too long.

But Clansman? You're obviously entitled to your opinion, but the song is filled with cool little details and keeps changing it up throughout its length.

I find the voice melody repetitive. It just goes faster or slower but it's the same thing until the 5th minute or so with the " we can't let them take any more", but then this gets repeated and then it goes back to the first melody. The later sections of the clansman are literally the same as the first verses, choruses , just different dynamics. When the wild wind blows is more repetitive for sure.

Afraid is an interesting song. The intro can feel/is too long, then the singing isn't much and just repeats the title. We can call it an atypical song (in a way) for Steve. Dance Of Death, even without a proper chorus, made it a bit more ''effective''.

Land is a specific song, yes. It's definitely not as interesting because of the vocals as the others. Boring live? Bring it back to know.

I think the idea behind Parchment was to primarily have this slow and heavy tempo. It's curious how a proper chorus would fit in (it would have been before the solos; probably something like Wild Wind, a song that doesn't have a proper chorus, only repeating once, but feels like one), the song is with a heavy use of vocals and melodies (like Red And Black, a song that I always ''feel'' its length). Wild Wind is similar in this regard, but more lively.
I've never really understood the praise for Empire of the Clouds, it's a little silly and sounds hastily slapped together.
Wow, that's the last thing I would think about it.

Can't say I agree, but I appreciate the response!

Are they? Never heard anyone mentioning these songs among their favourite.
Thread is not about Maiden songs we dislike in general, but popular fan faves we dislike. The Parchment, Isle of Avalon and the mentioned ones don't really fall into that category I think.

Totally agree. It is fine, but not that awesome. Still the best song on that album, though.

I have that problem with many post BNW songs. Which is ironic, because I am a heavy listener of Funeral Doom, where the average song length is 10 minutes and monotony is the goal. But Maiden has such a different vibe, they are not masters of intentional monotony.
