I listened to it a couple of weeks ago, and it was good but not great. The epics seemed a bit directionless; they hadn't really figured out how to write the long ones well yet.

Obviously, they got that fixed before the next album.

I'll have to go back and listen to it-- its been a while since I have.  I recall it being a pretty good album, though.

I like Caress of Steel a lot. I agree that the longer pieces are a bit incoherent, but many individual sections are excellent. I don't think "2112" is much better than "The Fountain of Lamneth" really - at least not the studio version.

As for their latest stuff... am I the only one who loves Snakes and Arrows? Brilliant album, and absolutely smashing live.

The only time I have really listened to the latest album was live.  I really need to sit down and listen to it.

Well I like it a lot better than the previous one, but I tend to skip tracks.
Also (imho) they were a bit too proud about it and they added too many songs in the setlist (most of them played in a row).

Favourite song: Armor and Sword

I have to say that I do like Rush a lot but that is based almost solely on radio play and listening to albums that my friends possess; I have none of their albums myself. They are one of my friend's favorite bands however, and he has the whole collection.... I guess I should get to burning when I see him again.

Yes you should be burning!!!

Rush is really cool, cause they have something that almost everyone can enjoy, and when they do something, it is good.

Enjoy your discovery. Only 18 studio albums, a piece of cake.  :P

But to be honest, I got into Rush via their live releases (to be precise: Different Stages started the ball rolling.

Yeah, I will definitely get on that.... something I should have done long ago. I wouldn't say that this would really be a "discovery" because over the years I am sure I have heard almost all of it. Let's call it an overdue concerted consolidation..... yes, I like that.  :D

Yeah, I like that terminology!

However, I think you will find some real gems that haven't been played on the radio....tho by listening to both boneyard and buzzsaw over the years you will know lots!

Oh, it's been much more than radio play though Wasted, I've heard entire albums before just hanging out with my friends. I just couldn't tell you exactly what albums when and which songs. It will be corrected!  B)

I was having this conversation with Perun, but since he had to dash to go invade Poland or some such thing, I thought I'd bring it up here too.

I am really, really excited for the new Star Trek movie coming out in less than 2 months.  I think it's going to be really good.  I was pretty much just..."OK, it's gonna be OK, don't get any expectations" till I saw the most recent trailer, and now I am absolutely convinced.  It's gonna be really good, maybe even great.

I cannot get my hopes up for any Star Trek. Almost every movie looks good in the trailer; that means nothing to me.

I take the pessimist approach. Go in there expecting a heap of garbage. The worst that can happen: you're right. But if the movie is good, I get a special bonus of a pleasant surprise.
