I never really liked it back then, though I think I'd enjoy it today.

I think you would too.  It's really poignant, they tackle a lot of interesting subjects, and the storylines are sublime.

That may be so, but there was nothing better than watching Sgt Slaughter kick the ever lovin' hell outta Serpentor in the GI Joe movie.

AJ, I have a picture of Clarence Thomas sleeping while Obama is giving his inaugural address.  Want it?

Why don't beer/booze/wine commercials ever show people getting genuinely drunk? Everyone in those commercials is always apparently sober. There are people who just drink alcohol to get drunk, why isn't that market being pursued?

The closest thing I recall is an old Bud Dry slogan: "Why ask why? Try Bud Dry." Which is a long way of saying: "Don't think, just drink."

Imagine the slogans...
"Sobriety is overrated - have a Heineken."
"Jack Daniels - satisfying falling-down drunks since 1866."
"Jose Cuervo tequila - who needs clothes?"
"Coors - we know it's vile, but a couple dozen will get you shitfaced."

Side note: watch the alcohol commercials carefully. You'll never see anyone actually take a drink. Why? Showing consumption of alcohol in a commercial is against the law. (In the US, don't know about other countries.)
Beer commercials and ads directed towards childen are illegal in Sweden - Which is why channel 3,6 and 5 all broadcasts from London.  -_-

Towards children ? How's that ?

-Hey kid, did you have your Paulaner today ?
An example of what the powers that be deem an advert for alcohol that could be viewed as been aimed at children is adverts for Alcopops.

As for people drinking in alcohol commercials, I never really thought about it but I don't think it is illegal to broadcast them in the UK (we have definitely had drinkers drinking in them in the past - recent example) as long as it after the watershed (i.e. 21:00).

I believe, if I read the article correctly, that in the US, alcopops are either illegal to sell/market, or the beer producers have been 'urged' (with threat of lawsuit) to take them off the shelves.  Either way, they will no longer be on the shelves in the USA.
