I see. Well I'm heading out to drink a couple pints to celebrate my promotion. So much for an alcohol free weekend. I'll be posting via ESP for the rest of the day.  :D

Wow, I didn't realize that our rank stuctures were all that different.

Chief Warrant Officers in any of our branches of service are their own rank stucture: W-1 through W-5, you then have the officer rank structure of O-1 through O-10. W-1 through W-5 are the equivilent of O-1 through O-5 respectively.

The U.S. Navy enlisted rank structure:

E-1 - Seaman Recruit
E-2 - Seaman Apprentice
E-3 - Seaman
E-4 - Petty Officer Third Class
E-5 - Petty Officer Second Class
E-6 - Petty Officer First Class
E-7 - Chief Petty Officer
E-8 - Senior Chief Petty Officer
E-9 - Master Chief Petty Officer

I guess it's really not that different. That's really great your dad will be working with NATO, my experience with them has been good up to this point.

Well, the division in the Canadian land forces is interesting.  After Sergeant in the CF, you are a Warrant Officer, then a Master Warrant Officer, then a Chief Warrant Officer.  Though I never really knew the point of Warrants in the US forces.

The officer ranks are identical, except for in the navy, which begin with:

O2: Acting Sub-Lieutenant
O3: Sub-Lieutenant

In the USN, it's Ensign then Lt. JG.  And the first "admiral" level in the CF (S) is Commodore, instead of Rear Admiral (lower).

There are no "five leaf" generals or admirals in the Canadian Forces.  However, it is speculated that if it ever became reality, it'd simply be a "Marshal".  Unlikely to ever happen, though.
Also, we pronounce "Lieutenant" properly in the CF.

"Leftenant"

Ah, I do so love friday!!!!  Just a few more hours and I can be rid of this tie!!!
I gave up wearing a tie around 3 years ago. The most stupid bit of attire anyone could ever have to wear.

Ties originate from Croatia, by all accounts.

Leftnenent...... haha . I know the rest rest of the world refers to this rank in this way. It's cute. It is pronounced Loo-ten-ent. I am very open to foriegn culture but I will never pronounce it to the left, never! I've run into this problem before.

I know no-one cares, that's why I post some of this in the 100K forum. I'm glad that you share an interest though LC. I do believe that 99% of the world's population has no idea what we were just discussing though. I did first encounter this anomaly in Afghanistan.

My brother is being promoted (?) to lieutenant sometime in June.

OK, I just got home from watching Iron Man, and that movie rocked the house big time!  I thot they did a great job with the story line, keeping it close to the original comic series and also being able to reduce about 20 years of comics into a feature lenght film.  I was satisfied.

Deano!!!  Did you see that your man got the pole!!!  Scored big points for me in fantasy racing!!!

Talking of Spam emails, I have no idea why, but I get around 10-15 of the buggers every day - almost all originating from the States. The subjects range from Oprah drinking her green tea to notification of my auto warranty running out soon! What auto warranty?

But my favourite is an offer to have the NY Times delivered to my door for around something stupid like $6 per week (I forget the true amount). I'm quite tempted to take up their offer to see if they can keep their promise. :D

Ha ha! You should take them up on that!

My secretary, who is 64 years old, gets 'penis enlargement' spam once a week.  It makes me laugh.
