It ain't a core quad problem. It's a problem with construction of today's mainboards. And it wasn't some 3rd party shit, it was Intel's workstation board. With today's hardware, it's not an issue whether something has a faulty construction and something doesn't. A good piece has less faulty units per series than others.

Mhm, I understand that.  All the quality for Intel has gone to shit, I get to see that sometimes in my job.  NVIDIA has put out a few really bad products recently too.

Ok, here I am, using Ubuntu on my old Gateway-- and it is still working!!!  You guys are all awesome!!!

I hafta say, I still like my Mac better, but if the kids can use this one, so they can keep their dirty hands off my Mac, then all will be well!

Nah, it works just fine!  Kids will have it...... it goes in the place of the old desk top that quit working.  ( I'm starting to feel like a computer junkyard)

Fox news?  or Faux news (ha)..... I guess laugh is the right word.  Any particular reason this time?

BWahahahaha.

What's wrong with the old desktop?

Fox News interviewed SHarps and, since he is a Conservative, they kept pressing him to bash Obama, and Harper pretty much refused.  In fact, he said that he felt Obama was doing OK as PM, even though he is a conservative.  It really upset Chris Wallace.  I lol'd.

That is great!!

dunno about the old desk top-- it gets to the window's screen, with the bar moving across the middle of the page, and just freezes there. I clearly don't have much luck with computers.  Maybe I should put a piston on it and see if it makes more sense

Yeah, that sounds about right!  Good ol' fox news.  I haven't watched it for a while, but sometimes its just damn entertaining to watch.  Wasn't it fox news that had Tommy Chong on about the Paris Hilton jail bit?  He thought they were total idiots and made that clear!

Actually, I was just thinking that... I need to mess around on here to check out how the word processing works-- I want something that my kids can write their reports/papers on.

I'm downloading Messenger right now, making sure I can work that too.

My kid is playing some game called Saints Row, where you are some gangsta going around shooting up the town.
OK..... I'm a dipshit, I'll admit.

Anyone using this Ubuntu:  I downloaded messenger, and it loaded it on my desktop as an icon, but when i click on it, it says that it can't be opened.... can I maybe not run IM on this OS?

I think I figured it out.. i was trying to load msn messenger (cause that'sall i've used)  but that wont work....  I saw some links to another messenger or two that should work with Linux.  Amsn or Trillian was suggested.  See... i just thought you had to have msn messenger to use it-- i have a slow learning curve!!

Thanks for the link, i'm going there now!

I guess that makes sense.  I'm going to spend the day working on this and reading about the dif features/programs.

But, hey, so far on the old lappy, it hasn't frozen or dropped the 'net-- I'm declaring bonus all the way around!

Thanks!

who knows how this will end up, but it is looking well so far.  I pulled the parts off of the bottom as best as I could last night, and kinda blew around in there.... seems ok.  I think the battery is on its last legs, tho.

Makes sense... I'll have to check out the psi on a can of air; at work, we have air lines all over for the service dept-- i mite just use that to blow it out.

Ever hear of amarok?  Looks like thats what I'll need to sync the kids' mp3 players-- I really wish their mom had gotten them ipod's, cause it would have been a lot easier to have us both running itunes... oh well.
