That is very cool! You should share pictures if you have any! The lakes are thawing here, the Rideau Canal skateway is now closed and pond hockey has been banned.

Just got a bit of a shock with two big explosions going off somewhere in the area. Thankfully turns out it was the second (and more successful) attempt to bring down a large crane at the nearby port. And not the nuclear power station.

So this happened Friday:

I was sitting waiting for the bus back from work, when some 50-looking guy begins waddling down the street to the bus station. He sits down on the other bench while I'm sitting leg on leg and on the phone minding my own business.
After about half a minute of silence he notices my dirty shoe.

Then he asks me if I just came back from work, so I answer I did.

Dude out of the blue just said, "haha, that's funny" and began talking about how he hasn't worked for 8 years and how he's a multimillionaire because he won the lotto and that "I have to work because I'm poor" (literally his words...) And I'm all like "yeah", "cool', just trying to ignorr hi while he's basically monologuing until his bus arrives.

???

Why? Why are you telling all this to me? Are you so bored that you just come to random people and begin telling them how rich you are? Do you think I care? Are you just very narcissistic? Maybe you're socially awkward and trying to initiate a conversation to improve social skills?

Why are you taking the bus?

Why didn't you ask him that?

Sigh, so you met this guy (turn subtitles on).

Apparently, one of the "unfriendly states" in Russian terminology, is Taiwan:

China would be thrilled to know it is a state for Russia, I'm sure. And with the flag of the Republic of China.
God bless Russian competence.

For those of you who need it: officially, you either recognize the Republic of China (government currently in Taiwan but claiming the mainland too), or the People's Republic of China (claiming Taiwan too). KMT (Taiwan) and CCP (mainland) seem to be unanimous about that, and strongly opposed to the idea of an independent Taiwan (dropping claims to the mainland). Unofficially, you can deal with Taiwan, including under its "Chinese Taipei" alias in sports and elsewhere, but if you recognize the PRC you never call it a state. Well done once again, Russia.

When I was in Taiwan I learnt by locals that KMT & CCP had aligned (long ago) to unify “at some point”. That was before Mrs. Tsai (DPP) was elected. Then there was a sharp drop in tourism coming from the mainland and that’s how I learnt it as I had just arrived and some people in tourist industry were complaining.

Russia had to chose between that or not mention TW at all which could be far worse. Tough place to be :D
