There are Thrash bands whom I prefer to Exodus and Death Angel - I find Exodus vocalists particularly difficult - but as a package it's going to be great.

Yeah, I agree with the Exodus vocalist. I think Bonded by Blood is one of the, or perhaps even the best thrash metal album ever, but Zetro is not the style of vocalist they should have gone with afterwards. Granted, it gave them a unique edge, but they could have been better with a different singer.
I saw them live at Wacken 2008(?) and I liked the vocalist they had back then.

The other day, I thought about the expression “most people don’t know them”. For example, “John Doe is a respected singer among metal fans but most people don’t know him.” Is there actually a single person alive on the planet whom the majority of the 7.8 billion population know about?

I would assume the president of the US would be known to the majority of people, at least now in the era of smartphones, social media and other means of very easy access to information.

Maybe it wouldn't be the case back when Bush Jr was president, but I wouldn't be surprised if both Obama and Trump were known by more than half of the world's population.

The US president was my first thought as well. The Pope is an interesting guess for sure. Maybe someone from the Eastern hemisphere...

It depends where in the world you're thinking of. I maintain that the Pope is the most famous person I've ever seen.

My neighbours are having a massive row. First one of the day I think.

I don't think the particular Pope of the time is all that well-recognized outside Christendom. Most people know there's a Pope, but they don't know who that Pope is. Pretty much like how the Dalai Lama is in the West. For example, I highly doubt more than 5% of the Turkish population would be able to say Francis if you asked them who the Pope is, or recognize him from a picture.

I think Wingman has it right, the most famous person in the world is the President of the United States. The outreach of the United States is far greater than the outreach of the Pope. In order to have any shot at being recognized by more than a half of the world's population, you have to be at least decently well-known in Asia, and I'd assume Donald Trump is significantly more famous in Asia than Pope Francis.

Trump is especially famous, because he was already one of the most famous businessmen in the world prior to his election to the presidency.
