Due to the very low pressure in Northern Norway today, the local airline Widerøe had to ground many of their aircraft .... because their altimeters don't allow for such a low reference pressure! This has never happened before in the history of commercial aviation in Norway.

Some older variants of the De Havilland Dash-8, I think. They also operate the Q400 variant and that one was not grounded.

I assume it is the local pressure corrected to mean sea level. That's what is normally used in the aviation.world. In other words, the actual local surface pressure would be lower.

Well 945 hPa is pretty damn low for mean sea level! The storm we had yesterday - and are still getting the trailing edge of - had mslp of about 949 hPa in the north of Scotland. That's not even the lowest UK mslp either. Christmas Eve 2013 had 936 hPa!
