Now that we've mentioned AIC....Can I just casually mention that L7 is gonna be back with a new album soon. Hell yes. very exciting. Very big part of the same grunge/punk rock scene back in the 90s :)

It's been said that grunge killed metal in the 90's, yet all of the following bands either release their most best selling album or ones that sold very well and were also very popular:

Metallica - The Black Album
Queensryche - Empire
AC/DC - The Razor’s Edge
Ozzy - No More Tears
Megadeth - Countdown To Extinction
Pantera - Vulgar Display Of Power
Guns ’N Roses - Use Your Illusion
Def Leppard - Hysteria

But Hysteria is from 1987, and all the other albums are from the really early '90s. Grunge didn't kill metal, but it was certainly one of the factors that managed to push the genre out of the spotlight and back into the underground (where a lot of bands managed to create some really strong music).

Oops, I meant Adrenalize which came out in 1992. And if it pushed the genre into the underground, then how did all of the bands I mentioned do so well during that time? How exactly was the genre pushed?
