So the moment I have been preparing for has arrived - my daughter claims to have a favorite band and wants me to take her to see them live. The good news is it's not Bieber or another similar crap. The bad news is the band is ... Imagine Dragons. So... what should I know about them?
 
Out of all the bands in the world that she could claim as her favorite, Imagine Dragons is hardly the worst one. The songs I've heard are fairly decent and their monster hit "Radioactive" is actually really solid. I say go for it, enjoy the show. It's hardly the best band ever but also far from the worst.
 
Thanks! I'm willing to cut her some slack for now, music-wise. After all, she's 10 and is yet going to explore music. So I'll see what can be done.

Correction, everything except "Radioactive" is garbage. Good call, Diesel.

To be honest, I've only really heard a handful of songs. What bothers me the most about them is how they're supposed to be this great new "rock" band despite barely being rock. That, and the singer's shouting is really irritating.

Whatever you think of them, Ariana, if your daughter loves the show, that's all that matters, right? :)

True. I wouldn't necessarily insist that she listens to and loves "my" bands, but the solid foundations are in place, I think, so I'm not that worried.
 
My issue with modern alt music is that most of it is just pop, and while ID fall into that category, I think they've got enough going on to make them bearable and at times they're really quite good to listen to. I really haven't heard enough to make a more informed opinion than that, but definitely from what I've heard they're okay. From what I've heard, they also know how to put on a pretty good live show, so yeah.

Ehh... I'm not wanting to have a debate about shouting in music.. But I don't know if I would call that shouting. Maiden has definitely shouted more.
