For some reason, I voluntarily started listening to retro synthwave while working. Scratch internet humour, I think I no longer understand myself.

I do that all the time.

As a nerd I've always loved video game music, so there's the connection. Besides this is non intrusive while working, the riffs are there, the beats are there, the melody is there, but it's somehow background-y and without vocals so it doesn't grab the attention from working.

Makes sense with the time difference to China.

I'm telling you it's not the lag, it's their thing. I guess they don't exactly go home after every work day and stay somewhere around the office compound to have a good night sleep. When I was in one of the national telecoms we had cooperation with ZTE because they were providing set-top boxes for IPTV system we were rolling out at the time. Their fellas came in and they would simply fall asleep at their desks. So someone filled us in, on how and why.

I know that Chinese students often sleep in the library. At one of my old universities I heard about one girl was was annoyed about people making noise in the library. Not because it distracted her from work but because it woke her up.

Can I just say that I find libraries to be utterly disconcerting places, and one of my most hated things in university was visiting the library. Restrictive noise areas make me feel awkward and uncomfortable.

I've recently started getting into this too, found these cool horror-influenced mixes. I love it.
