Well you're not getting my riddles for the entertainment! I'm quickly expanding those into a business.

Well,
killing off your most iconic and popular character halfway through - why, that takes some balls. But also, the ending, where Near explains the final proof of Light being Kira - though it’s slightly better explained in the manga (via walls of text :D ) and implying Mello actually might have surpassed him.

Oh yeah, both are great. I was rooting for Light the whole time, but it's the most perfect ending to anything I've ever seen, and IMO beats the manga with Light's death ending the series, not the "a year later..." shtick.

And yeah, killing L is tough and while I see why people think it shouldn't have happened, nonetheless it still worked and gave us some nice variety.

It also gives a good contrast between the two. L, while being inhumanly intelligent, still accepted the fact he was only human... and therefore prepared for the eventuality he might die, so someone might follow in his legacy and finish the job.

Light was a spoiled brat with delusions of grandeur, who actually confused himself with a divine being. So it was really satisfying to see him getting his comeuppance.
