One hundred years ago today the Battle of Passchendaele finally ended. Something like a half-million young men were killed, wounded, captured, or missing. Of the countries represented on Maidenfans, many were involved in the Battle - British, Irish, Australian, Canadian, and Germans, off the top of my head, along with the others who were involved in the war itself.

There are people still alive who remember this time, and we live in a world where we no longer have to hate because of these grotesque slaughters, where we are no longer enemies. For this, I am grateful.

Sniffles - Cold - Flu - Manflu - Pneumonia?
Around 16 years ago, I contracted pneumonia. And although I was initially in a lot of pain and could barely breathe, it wasn't until I was out of the woods I realised I was possibly the only person on that ward that would have survived my bout of that illness. Took me months to fully recover.

Holy shit! I just noticed that A Matter of Life and Death is finally on Spotify. Previously it was the only Maiden album that wasn't on Spotify, and it really bugged me. Now I can finally make a complete 155 song playlist of the Official Maidenfans Rankings.

My Sabaton listening has come to a close! Heroes was a solid album, if a little weak, but I guess that was to be expected with the line-up changes then. Does have some stand-out songs, particularly Night Witches.

I'm honestly unsure whether Metalizer or The Last Stand is Sabaton's worst album. Metalizer is completely straight-forward in what it wants to do, and while it's certainly weak it can be a bit enjoyable at intervals. The Last Stand, however, tries to be as great as their previous efforts and completely fails in that regard. At least it's a short album.

So, best to worst ATM before I relisten to everything again:

8. The Last Stand - see above on why. 5/10
7. Metalizer
- just barely better. 5/10
6. Heroes
- with the above two albums out of the way, the rest of Sabaton's discography is really strong. Like I said, Heroes is a bit weak at times, but its good outweighs its bad. 7/10
5. Attero Dominatus
- Sabaton's discography seems to be split into three different groups - The Firsts - Primo and Attero, The Strong - Art, Coat, and Carolus, and The Next Up - Heroes and The Last Stand (I don't count Metalizer here). Primo and Attero really do feel like companion albums. Attero sounds kind of like Primo Pt. II and while it's not a bad thing, it weakens the album slightly. Just slightly because it's still full of memorable tunes. 8/10
4. Primo Victoria
3. Coat of Arms
- I'm not really sure which album I prefer, because on the one hand, Primo is the kind of album that has highs and lows, but the highs outweigh the lows and the lows themselves aren't that low. Coat, on the other hand, is consistently strong but the songs individuality is thus diminished. So the rank on here will likely flip over time. Both nonetheless are at least an 8.5/10 if not higher.
2. The Art of War
1. Carolus Rex
- again, not really sure which I prefer because both are amazing albums. The Art of War has consistently strong songs that are this time memorable, enjoyable, and pretty damn great. Carolus Rex is the same, but the scope of the album is what tips the scale for me at the moment. Both are great, so I might change my mind later on. At the very least, they're both 9.5/10

Overall: Sabaton is now one of my favorite bands. Yeah, even I'm surprised. Their lows can be cringe-inducing, but when they get it right, they get it fucking right.

Just checked to see how long it took us to go from 50k to 75k and from 75k to 100k. 575 days for the former, 1080 days for the latter.

I thought activity on this thread was always trending upwards but clearly it peaked in '13 & '14.
