Me and a friend had a period of drinking at his place on every Friday at a very early age. Seems wrong in hindsight but I have so many fun memories from that time and we were really good friends. Over time, he started to get into trouble more and shit went out of control for him, but I think he's doing well again.

While you all are busy getting drunk to Maiden, I've been listening to Sabaton again. Regarding the Metal Machine, Metal Crue, and Metal Ripper, I actually think they're pretty good. They showcase the band's love for those that inspired them and are rather touching tributes. Though Crue and Ripper could've used some better names, but eh.

That's because we have said everything there was to say about Sabaton years ago. :P Plus, we can get drunk and listen to music.

Some people said that the metal songs were bad, so I just threw that up there for reactions. Carry on! ;)

Ok folks, convince me on this Sabaton stuff. From what I've listened to so far, it is a bit cheesy.

Bearing in mind, this band, for me, is the best new band I've heard in a long time:

It just needs to click with you. Keep listening until it does. :P

In other, sorry, related news, I just realized that today is Veteran's Day. Is there a better way to remember the fallen than by listening to Sabaton?

I really feel intimately attached to English culture, but I think I will never get used to their understatement.
Think of it this way: if Paschendale is The Times, Price of a Mile is the Sun, or the EastEnders, or what.

I really want to get into that band, I read a lot about it that tells me it's the band for me, but I never got around to listening to even one of their songs. Maybe I should tomorrow (listening to the Maiden live stream now).

I think the best way with Sabaton is to listen to quite a bit of it, especially the highly rated stuff from the survivors. I initially thought 'wtf' when I started listening, then the cheese wore off and individual songs stood out. Doesn't work for everyone, though.

For me, it was love at first listen. I really don't hear a whole lot for cheesy-ness in their music.

I disagree, because I did this and they turned me off on Sabaton. If it wasn't for a quest to find more stuff like Ghost Division I wouldn't have listened to them and learned to like the stuff in the survivors.

But I mean, like you said, it's different for other people.

Same. I wouldn't call them cheesy, I just think they use more prose than poetry in their lyrics.

Actually, speaking of which, it was that prose that made me dislike them to begin with - someone got me to listen to Uprising and I was underwhelmed.

Because of the subject matter of their songs, they don't really need to be poetic.
