In some cases, only knowing the first verse can lead to big embarrassment.

Like when the arrangers of a football game during the 2008 European Championship showed the lyrics to the first verse of the German national anthem, the verse that starts with Deutschland, Deutschland über alles and is nowadays mainly used by German nationalists - only the third verse is used in official settings.
