Never been a big Petty fan but I like the occasional song and Hypnotic Eye was a strong album... shocker.

Same here, I liked a lot of the hits and a couple of the early albums ... bought Hypnotic Eye after giving it a spin on Spotify ... really good album.

A real shame he passed away

It's looking very likely that I'll be going to New Orleans in December as my abstract has been accepted. I have to look into flights now and the direct flight from Heathrow to New Orleans is too expensive, so the best option is to change at Toronto with a 90 minute changeover. @LooseCannon do you know if that's enough time in that airport?
I can actually go through Atlanta for less money and with more time to spare, which is nice.

FYI, if you have not been there before .. Atlanta is a massive airport .. the domestic and international terminals are about 1 mile apart (there is a train you can take from one to the other) ... but it still takes some time

Is 2 hours enough?

Yeah ... 2 hours should be good unless the customs lines are really backed up. I did this once coming back from Canada about 5 years ago and I think it took me about 45 minutes to clear customs and take the train to the other terminal (about a 10 minute ride), not sure how the lines are for non US citizens. In part it depends on what gate you come in on and what gate you leave from

Here is a handy map with some info

This part is what you will need to do

" Arriving from an international flight & transferring to a domestic flight: After going through International Arrivals customs clearance procedure, follow signs to the 'Plane Train' serving all concourses in the center of their gate arrangements"

If your US airline on this trip is Delta, you should be in good shape, Atlanta is their main hub and I would imagine they have somewhere between 5 and 10 daily flights to New Orleans they could put you on if you miss yours

All I know is that Heathrow is the most insane, infuriatingly laid-out airport I've ever seen. Get off the plane, walk a mile just to get out of the exit gate ramp, follow terrible signage down 2-3 flights of stairs/ramps to wait for a bus for 20 minutes that takes 7 minutes to drive across the airport, walk a mile to security, walk another mile to get transfer boarding passes, actually find your gate - have your passport checked for the third time - WHOOPS NOW I'M LATE FOR MY FUCKING FLIGHT!

Yeah .. I hate going through there ... sadly for me, I need to do it in a few weeks on the way to/from Budapest. At least in the past, the Budapest flight has been in the same terminal as my incoming flight from the US, which seems to have shorter security lines.

Take Atlanta. I believe you will pass through US security in Heathrow. If you go through Toronto you'll have to pass US security and customs in Toronto and that adds a lot to the time.

Negative .. there is not US Customs in Heathrow .. there is in Dublin. There used to be in Heathrow, but that is long gone

Which I guess brings up a point .. unless it is cost prohibitive or the schedules do not work out, flying London to Dublin .. then to the US might be worth looking into, you will pass US Customs in Dublin, so when you arrive at any US airport, it will be just like arriving on any domestic flight.
