Where is the brewery .. I'll be up here Saturday-Thursday next week. Staying in Joliet.

Ah, quite far from Joliet. North Center area of Chicago - Irving Park and Ravenswood Corridor. It's called Begyle Brewing. I'll be there Saturday, Monday, Tuesday, so feel free to stop on by if you can possibly make it that far north!

I'll see how things are going down here. My cousin and I were talking about maybe heading up to the city and maybe go to a Hawks game .. need to check the schedule. If not, I have a feeling I'll be here quite a bit over the next few months. I feel bad for my Aunt who lives here and has a lot on her plate, going to try to help her out as much as I can and my work is pretty much all remote, so it does not matter where I am.

Sounds good. Let me know when you're in town, you can swing by for a beer. If bearcub happens to be in, I'll get him one, too. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but he is 21+ right?

Offer stands for any of you fine Maidenfans folks, come to Chicago and you've got a Begyle Brewing beer on me (provided you're as cool as bearfan, that is).

Sleepy from watching chess again, for a different reason than last time.

According to a Dutch chess analist:

"This chess game will not go down in history as the most attractive, interesting showdown. It's the dodging of a fight and then slowly attacking from a defense. It is not pretty."

Former chess Böhm has a striking explanation for the low-key game by Carlsen. "He was worried that his computer was hacked by the Russians. Whether that is justified or not, I think that's why he avoids the big/main lines (not a good translation, sorry) and the big heavy openings. Instead he takes refuge in the side paths. And that will print its mark on this game. I'm afraid that's the reason. "

The downstairs neighbours whose noise complaints I've made you aware of are at it again. All they do is complain that I'm keeping them up at night playing video games (how the fuck would they know what I do at night?), oh, besides throwing soil at my windows. Last night was the cherry on the cake: at 2 AM, when I had been asleep for 2 hours (and others even more) they ring our doorbell, wake everyone up in doing so, then leave by the time my brother goes to open the door, and follow it up by sending my mother messages that accuse me of producing unbearable amounts of noise again.
Basically, this is proof that all the alleged noises are a fabrication of the neighbours. Soon enough, I'll leave a letter in their mailbox, which reads: "Leave us alone. The sounds you're hearing are in your head."

Is this analysis directed towards the 12th game only, or the entire match?

My take on it is that even without any fear of hacking, Carlsen would have good reason to respect the massive apparatus of experts who would help Karjakin prepare for the match. Especially their capacity to analyze his own former games, and other games following the lines Carlsen plays most often. That's a good reason to steer away from the main lines. And if we look at how the 12 games have played out, Carlsen has had decent success with this strategy: He has not really been caught by Karjakin's preparations a single time. He has come out of most openings with the better position and with less time spent. It seems to be Karjakin's ability to find good defensive lines over the board that has saved him, not preparation.

That being said, I can see that such a fear as you describe could cause an extra cautious approach to the 12th and final game. Personally, I'm more inclined to think it was due to a tactical move: Use Sunday and Monday to prepare for rapid chess, while Karjakin would spend his time preparing his defense for Monday. Then play for a win only if Karjakin made a mistake early in game 12, otherwise play it safe and take the draw.

Are there any opposite neighbors in the apartments where you live? if you're truly sleeping and there's no noise coming from you guys upstairs it's possible that they might hear noise form an opposite neighbor in another apartment and think it comes from you? or they're just insane maybe.

Must be the latter. The house has three apartments, two on the first floor and one, mine, on the second. My room, especially the table with my computer, is located precisely above where they sleep. So at first I took their complaints seriously and started to keep as quiet as humanly possible at night, but now, as we found out, it was all bullshit on their side. Ever since they moved below us, some five years ago, I've sensed a weird aura around them. The kind of people who keep looking for problems where there are none. Btw, they even hinted calling the cops recently - that would be a spectacle!

If we take the rather lazy approach and assume bands like AC/DC to be metal (purely for this question) and by the same reasoning, exclude Punk*, what are your favourite non-metal songs?

For me, I have to say I really like Run by Snow Patrol, but I have to hand it to Leona Lewis as her version is better:

*It would be too easy to just list some punk tunes.
