I braved Christmas shopping crowds today. I completely forgot it was the official Christmas lights switch on and reindeer parade in town today, and the whole town centre was basically Kidageddon.

Now that was underwhelming. The players exchanged off all the heavy pieces, created a completely drawn position and agreed a draw on move 30 ... after 35 minutes of playing.

I just had my first Christmas ale over the weekend, made by the brewery I work at. It is very tasty and I get to sip it all shift long. :)

Currently: putting up my Christmas decorations, drinking a scotch, listening to Opeth. It's a good day.

So, near Chicago. I got a call Friday that my Grandmother was in really bad shape and I flew here that night. She is 98, has had various health problems the last 3 years. Got to the hospital, doctor said this is probably it. We went in 1 by 1 said our good byes .... then she just pops up and says she was hungry, first thing she said all day. By today, she was walking a little bit. She still realistically does not have much time left, but she is one tough lady. In really no pain and her mind is 100% there, she remembers every minor little thing about everyone and everything. Tonight they moved her out of the hospital to a rehab facility, her comment was that she had been there before, liked the place, she can get her hair done there and ice cream every day at 5.

I hope I inherited her longevity gene, I got her arthritis gene, maybe they come as a package deal :)

So, flying home tomorrow, luckily did not have to put in the suit I brought up with me. But coming back Saturday and I'll work up here next week.

Sorry to hear about your Grandmother's trouble, @bearfan, but good to know she's still back up and kicking! Let me know when you're back here - you should swing by the brewery and I'll treat you to a pint!
