I witnessed the worst pun ever while watching a BBC gameshow on Friday. One topic was British WW2 aircraft and the contestants were to pick their answer from a list. That list included the Wellington. The program co-host/referee/expert had already come up with some German nicknames for other aircraft mentioned. For the Wellington he suggested that the German nickname would've been ... das Boot ::)

Bah. Most likely tomorrow, if not soon afterwards, I'll have a new car. Sounds weird eh?

Well, I don't like parting with my old (current) car. I know, it's a thing. It doesn't live.... But I have some bond with it. It's my first car, I've had it for 11 years and 3 months. Drove more than 100.000 kilometer with it. Visited fourteen countries with it... Scotland was the last (new) one. And I carried our born dead daughter with it to her final resting place... :/

He said he'll have a new car, not that he's buying it :D

So, I guess it might have been an inheritance from a wealthy aunt who specified in her will that he would use the car as his primary vehicle in order to also get the beautiful mansion in Scheveningen.

Okay, seriously - sometimes you can't always get what you want, you're pretty lucky if you get what you need. That includes getting rid of a beloved old car in order to be safe and accepted on the roads of the first world. I soon might be before such decision myself.

Well, it is 20 years old now. The costs to maintain it are getting higher every year. For instance, in a few months the whole exhaust system needs to be replaced. Not just one part, but the whole thing because it starts crumbling apart. 1000 euros. And what's next... who knows. The double thing is that I invested a lot in this car already. And the next car costs money as well of course. I've replaced several parts over the years. I'm afraid it's time to get a newer one. To keep the annual garage costs down and drive a bit safer. I'm not buying a new one, I don't have that money. It can be 8 or 9 years old, and not much more than 100.000 km on the counter.

I'm taking my uncle with me who has been a car mechanic for 50 years (no kidding, this week is his last at his work and then he goes with pension). He maintained this car since the first owner, and now is my expert guide in selecting the next one and saying goodbye to the current one.
By the way, incidentally his first child also died at birth

Do you know something we don't?

So the current car has a lot of sentimental value for you. Never having had a car, I couldn't imagine myself being attached to one, but if it's been a part of such significant events in your life, that makes a lot of sense.

My first car was a mighty 1972 Ford Pinto .. which made Al Bundy's Dodge look pretty good .. but still, it beat the hell out of a Schwinn

Foro, maybe you can keep some small part of your old car and either have it at home or in your new car. In any case, it's inevitable, and you can give a new car the chance to collect new memories.

OK seriously, that's a good idea though.

Hit the gym on Sunday for the first time in a very long while. My arms are absolutely wrecked today. It's the good kind of pain though.

Thanks mate. I indeed still have some elements! :)
And I like what you said about collecting new memories. That sounds good.
