What is Czechness? What defines a Czech...ian? Is it beer and sausage?

We also wear socks in sandals, we are proud rednecks who don't travel all that much, we're suspicious of pretty much anyone (mostly the state and/or nice people), we strive under all invaders (whether from the East or the West), we like to tell anything on anyone (especially if we envy that anyone something), we hate political correctness, we pride ourselves in the fact our language is so complicated rarely someone uses it correctly and we differentiate between racism against the blacks and the Asians (which is not cool, because we like those) and racism against Gypsies and Muslims (which is a necessity, because those are criminals sucking off the social system and medieval women beaters, invaders and terrorists) so we are actually very offended to be called "racists".

And Antonín Dvořák. He was neither of the aforementioned.

Err...

Out in the Czechness the all seeing eye
Dickheads above us to light up the sky

I think the latter is mostly because of the fear of anything new/from the outside, because we had really no knowledge of Muslims before 9/11 and ISIS.

The former is mostly based on the fact the cities/parts with Gypsy majority tend to be really dangerous even during the day.

It's more of a cultural posture. We are afraid of everybody equally.

The fact the refugees we helped and sponsored to live here decided to give us a middle finger and go try to get to Germany, because there's a higher standard of living certainly didn't help matters, though.

You're not the first one I hear that from. This is something that hardly gets talked about here here. It was somewhat discussed for a brief time last summer, but other things became more important, then.

Refugees' refusal to stay at countries like Czech Republic, Hungary and what have you strengthens the idea that they're trying to reach Europe to leech off the state. Idea is that these people are running for their lives but when they're picky about the country they go to, it creates a sense of disingenuousness. At least I think that's what's going on.

I am not sure if it's being picky when you end up in a xenophobic climate.

I think the situation varies. Sometimes the doubt of pickiness is well placed. There have been news of refugees leaving Finland for Germany because they "thought it was boring", and refugees complaining that Norwegian cuisine wasn't that good. But in other cases, your argument holds truth, Hungary being one of them. They treated refugees like human garbage.

I've read some terrible, fairly recent news from Bulgaria, where some individuals took the law in their own hands. I am not surprised in the least that refugees don't wish to have another run for their lifes situation.

It was the same here in Denmark, many refugees would rather get to Sweden than Denmark, even if Denmark was ready to take them in, mostly because Sweden was/is more liberal towards refugees (they've changed that a bit though..because pressure did become too much for the Swedish government But at the beginning of the surge, Sweden were very welcoming) and also because of the fact that many had family in Sweden...Sweden is probably the most multicultural country in Scandinavia.
