It's here, people. Two suicide attacks at once at a public meeting for peace in Ankara today. 20+ dead, hundreds injured. Perpetrators unknown.

Edit: First official numbers: 30 dead, 126 injured.

My mom and dad initially planned on attending the meeting but didn't because of health reasons. They could've been there.

Initial estimates were sadly understatements. Death toll is confirmed to be at 86, with 23 in critical condition and further 150 people injured.

The rally was quite extensive in attendance, with lots of NGOs and trade unions supporting it and the rally welcoming thousands of people who came to Ankara specifically for it. It was organized by KESK which is the union my mom, who is a teacher, is a member of. There were people arriving from our old hometown as well and as such my mom initially planned to attend the rally and was only put off by her back problems this week. She was going to be there with my dad. I can't quite get over the fact at the moment.

The attacks took place near the Ankara Central Railway Station, so they directly attacked the people arriving from other cities. I hear the Chief of my best friend's department at uni in Eskişehir dodged the attacks by arriving a couple of minutes late. The rally itself had started next to the Railway Station.

Extremely glad that you and your family are OK. The current events in Turkey are nothing short of tragic at the moment.
