My initial impression of TBOS, after one listen:
"If Eternity Should Fail" wouldn't sound out of place on some of Bruce's later solo work ("Chemical Wedding", say),
"Speed of Light" sounds better without the video,
"Shadows of the Valley" has the most immediately recognisable "classic Maiden" sound,
"Empire of the Clouds" is simultaneously a complete surprise and entirely what I was hoping for, if that makes any sense.
Worth waiting for? Most certainly.

After a few rounds of listening to TBOS in full, I've now started to listen to one song at a time, pausing in between, playing the songs in different sequence etc. - that way I'll try to get an impression on how each song sounds outside the context of the songs before and after it.

I'm moving house on Saturday. Need to start packing. I don't have much stuff but if I don't start now then I'll be rushing around on Friday evening and Saturday morning. What's quite funny is that a few hours after I move in I'll be going to Cardiff for someone's birthday and staying the night.

Tears of a Clown. What a song.

Agreed. It's a fully formed short Maiden song like I honestly don't think they've had since Wicker Man.

Good luck with the move, Wiz!

I'm not moving very far, only about 15 minutes away from where I live now. Annoyingly I haven't managed to sort out the contract yet because the estate agents are useless. When we do get round to signing the contract it won't actually start until October 1st so I'll be living there illegally for two weeks. ::)

Haven't done that yet, with the exception of the two I like the least. I thought more playing could increase my appreciation. Not sure if it works though.

Haven't quite started that either; always been a start-to-finish album listener. Been really busy at work (& will be next week too), so haven't listened to it that many times yet. Currently on my fifth start-to-finish listen.

Parts of BoS are surprising (pleasingly so); the writing is (with a few small exceptions) original & breaks new ground ; & the production is interesting & to my liking. I'm not sure if I could rightly expect much more from a band of Maiden's vintage.
