Half through first listen, it's still Rainbow covers and it's among best work Metallica did. WOW

Yep. Good stuff. But as great as Metallica's interpretation is, it still pales in comparison to the originals, which speaks to the timeless awesomeness of those early Rainbow albums. If any of the young'uns on this forum aren't intimately familiar with them, check them out. Can't top Blackmore + Dio.

Unfortunately, the rest of the Dio tribute album isn't great. Other than the Metallica medley, the only covers worth hearing more than once are the Scorpions' "Temple of the King" and, surprisingly, Halestorm's "Straight Through the Heart." The Halford version of "Man on the Silver Mountain" is downright embarrassing.
