Many Canadians going nuts over perceived injustice in the Olympic ice dance competition.

There was a pre-Olympic report in the same French magazine that brought down Lance Armstrong that a deal had been made where the Russians would give the US favourites the gold in exchange for a Russian underdog winning bronze.
That's exactly what happened, leaving the Canadian favourites with silver.
I recalled the exact same thing.

Figure skating isn't a sport. It's dancing, which is art. I'm extremely sceptical of the inclusion of events in the Olympics which are scored qualitatively.
It's an extremely physically demanding art, if that's the case.

Figure skating involves a strict canon of figures to skate, and the scores are given according to how these are accomplished. Every skater has to do the same figures, only the arrangement is individual.

I'm not sure that's entirely the case anymore. I think there are certain required elements but the competitors are given some leeway in terms of what moves they do, or do not attempt. And it reports out only the cumulative score, not what scores an individual judge gives and why.

This is interesting. The site from which my uncle got that Maiden mini guitar from no longer has any guitars by the band! And when I posted the link to show them off, there were about 5 different ones on there. I'd say I have a collector's item, but other sites probably have the same ones.

I was watching Women's Curling tonight. It was China vs Switzerland and Switzerland won 10 to 6. Despite what some may think about the sport, it was very interesting to watch once my husband explained how it worked. There is a lot of strategy involved.

I have decided to see if I can take up curling. I've tried it twice, and enjoyed it, but I'm only now starting to appreciate the strategy end of it. And the skill end is harder than it looks.
