@Dr. Eddies Wingman
On TV I heard that Norway (named the one but most emancipated country in the world) has 70 Olympic medals in speed skating for men, and 2 for women!
Any thoughts why speed skating hasn't been so successful (or popular) with women in Norway, compared to men?

I don't really have any insight as to it. I can only think of one: Speed skating has been on a decline in Norway since the early 90s. Girls/women traditionally have stuck to team sports here, resulting in very good results in women's handball and football, and the influx of girls/women to a broader spectrum of sports has maybe coincided with this decline for speed skating. The result being that few women have pursued a speed skating career.

Remember that the majority of those 70 medals are ancient history.

It's not a well founded theory, but it's the best I can think of right now.

The IOC can fuck right off. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, the Norwegian cross-country team were hit by tragedy the day the games started, as one of the girls lost her brother. Her team-mates chose to show their support by wearing black armbands during the 15 km on Saturday. Now the IOC have reprimanded them for this gesture, can you believe it. It's not in the "celebratory spirit" of the Olympics.

Anything that takes attention away from their sponsors ... Wankers. Colossal? No, Olympic. Higher, stronger, faster, like their inflated egos.

It didn't suffer so much in ski sports. :)

No, but ski sports have not seen a decline in general either. Rather the opposite, there are more active skiers now than ever. Skaters are a rare breed these days.

I'm so excited that I can't work at all. Having too much coffee may also have something to do with that.
