The song I'm listening to right now - Sabaton's Ruina Imperii - makes references to a story which is still well remembered in Trondheim, where I lived for nine years.

It starts with mentioning that "Carolus is no more" meaning Carl XII of Sweden. He was killed by an unknown sniper at Fredriksten Fortress, 30 km from where I grew up. Shortly after, it mentions that "Death awaits Armfelt and his men". This is about General C. G. Armfeldt, whose mission was to take Trondheim. His regiment was stationed outside the city after a long siege, failing to take it, when they got news of the King's death. They were ordered to retreat back to Sweden.

When they reached the mountains, they were surprised by a blizzard. 2/3 of the men died. The general, along with a group of Finnish elite troops, survived and made it back to Sweden. This is known as the Carolean Death March.

Fun fact: The sports club for students at the university in Trondheim - in particular the orienteering and cross-country groups - always enter C. G. Armfeldt as number one in start lists for internal competitions. He is also entered as DNF in the results list.
