I'm having Chinese takeout for lunch. I wanted to make myself a shrimp sandwich, but North Sea shrimps are ridiculously expensive.

They are. In Norway, the price of shrimps fluctuates quite a lot, depending on how well the fishing goes, but I rarely find them cheap.

I guess it's not fishing season. Or, shrimping season.

So I'm stuck with stereotypical Chinese food. They could have been a bit more generous with the hot sauce.

Odd, they always have fish/shrimp here regardless of the time of year.

It's available all year, but the price goes up and down. I guess that's because it varies from day to day or week to week how much the shrimpers can catch.

Still off .. if you buy them at the store here the price will vary .. but in most eating establishments here (lobster seems to be the main exception), the price is the same day to day/week to week

It was the store price I was thinking of - in restaurants the price doesn't vary much.

Yeah, they were available, but 3,99 per 100g.

40€ per kg? Bloody hell. I would even consider 30€/kg relatively expensive.

Keep in mind that shrimps are quite popular in Germany, and there's only relatively limited North Sea access to serve the demand.

They are popular in Norway as well, but I guess our slightly longer coastline helps on the supply side

You think those few kilometres make a difference?

You can fit many trawlers into a few kilometres of coastline!

Unless they get stuck in a fjord, that is.
