It's a product made from the whey of cow milk or goat milk (or a mixture) - whey is the stuff left after production of ordinary cheese. It goes through a caramelization process and ends up looking like in the picture shown below. It has a pretty sweet taste. It's most popular in Norway, not so sure about Sweden, but varieties are also made outside of Scandinavia.
