Boarding? That's when you hit a player in such a way as to drive them into the boards dangerously. I see it once every game or two.

Say the player is standing away from the boards. Driving them into the boards where the principle point of contact of the boards on the player is the player's head and neck is an infraction. If it results in an injury it could be a 5 minute major or even a game misconduct. Suspensions have also occurred for boarding.
 
That's quite possible. Psychedelia seems to that effect on me.

Thanks for clearing it up LC. I see the point of the rule definitely. It seems, perhaps to an untrained eye, that they often hammer into the boards around the goal. So I thought the boarding thing was a bit weird :)
 
Hammering into the boards is okay, but if you do it in a way that endangers the player - that is boarding.
