Re the Super Bowl commercials: First, the price for a 30-second ad is outrageously expensive for the Super Bowl, so people really pull out the stops. You don't just put on any old ad -- you really want to make an impression. It's basically the Super Bowl for the Madison Avenue ad agencies, too. Second, for many years (basically, the 1990s) the game itself was a letdown. Usually one team was much better than the other, and the games weren't particularly close, so the commercials and halftime show were often what kept people from turning off the TV midway through the third quarter. For the past decade or so, however, many of the games have been amazing -- well played, close, and often decided in the final possession (e.g., Rams-Titans, Steelers-Cardinals, and all five games involving the Brady-Belichik Patriots). I think people care less about the commercials nowadays, as a result, but that could just be me.

Even though I've seen what LC looks like, I still read his posts thinking they were written by Captain Picard. And probably always will.

And I keep hoping your avatar Eddie will add a top hat to his monocle.

I perfectly understand the advertisers' point of view - huge audience, fierce competition, etc. What amazes me is the fact that there are people out there that are actually eager to see the commercials.

It's probably the same reason why a guy like me who doesn't care about American football watches the Super Bowl. Glitz, glamour and curiosity. So much money goes into these commercials that air on Super Bowl.

There's some interesting commercials. Sometimes the game is worth caring about. But honestly? I can just watch the commercials tomorrow.
