I guess it is like the equivalent of the UEFA Champions League Final or the World Cup or something. In the US I'm sure it is like the most watched sporting event (Moon Child can tell me if I'm wrong) like 100 + million viewers in the US alone. So naturally there is a huge culture in advertising and half time shows behind it as well. it is by no means more important than the game. Well for some fair weather fans it might be, but not for actual fans of the game ;)
 
That sounds about right to me. They figure, there's going to be a crap ton of people watching the Superbowl so companies try to make funny and interesting commercials to try and draw those viewers in.
 
The commercials are interesting because they are like the most expensive commercials you'll ever see because there is such a huge market of viewers So companies pay a shit load of money to even get a 2 minute commercial slot in the Super Bowl..
 
I perfectly understand the advertisers' point of view - huge audience, fierce competition, etc. What amazes me is the fact that there are people out there that are actually eager to see the commercials.
 
I don't get that point of it myself. I could really care less about them. I'm not one of those crazies who sits there and watched the game just for the commercials. Some are pretty funny but other wise, eh.
 
I don't live in the US but the commercials themselves have become sort of a cultural/social thing in themselves to talk about. Watching and discussing the commercials of the super bowl is like a tradition in it it self in the US that we in Europe might not really *get" , but they are an important aspect of the event for many Americans.
 
The commercials also often draw from all kinds of different entertainment niches right Moon Child? Like you could have a super star from the movies star in some commercial, or a singer from some band star in a commercial?

I tried to come up with some heavy riffs (not my strong suit, I'm a soft player) and it sounded exactly like Fear of the Dark. Damn I suck at this.
