It is sad but that is how it is. For many 16 - 19 year olds the 80s were a really REALLY long time ago. They don't have anything in common at all with that decade. Many of them grew up with Korn, Slipknot and Linkin Park as the big bands/heroes of their age . I think a lot of the people into all those horrible metal core genres just finds classic metal and rock so incredibly old fashioned. Hey, they gotta have their own revolt too I guess right...
Yeah, I do have to give credit to some of the newer bands (A7X, Slipknot, Lamb of God, etc.) for introducing a whole new generation to heavy metal.

Unknown One, please post more metal discussions with your alter ego EmperorBadger :rocker:

Well to be fair, UnknownOne is the alterego. ;)

You know what? I'm perfectly okay with Maiden, Priest, Sabbath, Metallica, etc. being called "classic metal" and categorized differently than the newer metal bands that "Salazar" listed. There is a pretty big difference, and I much prefer the former. In fact, I've even told people that I'm a fan of the classic metal bands of the 80s, but most of the newer stuff alienates me what with the absence of melody and vocalists who deliberately try not to sound human. In fact, there are two different satellite radio channels in the U.S. for the two different kinds of "metal" -- classic vs. more modern -- so I don't think I'm alone.

But saying Slayer isn't metal is just downright stupid. Supertramp is classic rock. And Slayer ain't anything like Supertramp.

Well I'd say "classic rock" and "classic metal" are 2 different things as well. I have heard some people put Sabbath, Maiden, Priest etc under the classic rock banner so that part wasn't surprising me too much although personally I'd say they'd be more fitting under the "classic metal" banner. Although the 2 things that annoyed me was that he was labelling Maiden and Priest hair metal at one point. The other being all those Thrash/Death metal bands I listed as examples also being placed under the "classic rock" banner. :/

Linkin Park isn't that bad, though. :p

It doesn't make sense and I doubt if you'd find another youngster with the same ideas anytime soon.

The leader of the Bulgarian party representing the Turkish minority was nearly assassinated today and I had a heated argument with a psychotic archeologist. Just the usual Saturday really.

Eh, sorry your Saturdays can't be more interesting.

Naturally the near assassination is not funny at all... but this post sounds funny because it's anything but usual!
And a heated argument with a psychotic archeologist?

Actually, the assassination part may be funny as well because I'm positive it was a hoax. If it wasn't a hoax, it was the most ridiculous and amateurish assassination attempt in history.
The archeologist was a complete nutcase who believes that Bulgarians are the core of the entire global civilization, from the Celts through the Chinese and all the way to the Incas.

It made the news here in Turkey. Quite a funny assassination attempt really, the assassin simply stands next to the man who was speaking on the podium.

Here is the video. Pretty dramatic  The perpetrator gets the shit kicked out of him afterwards.

What happened to the guy was awful. The security were totally inadequate, they almost let the crowd lynch him.

He tried to fire but he just couldn't for some reason. In a slow-mo video you can see he reloaded the gun and tried again but still nothing happened.

Yeah crazy. I guess the gun jammed and as the perpetrator tried to fix the malfunction is looks like Ahmed Dogan manages to somehow wrestle him enough to save seconds for the security to come in and tackle the guy

Yeah, he used to be a secret agent for the Communist National Security once. I guess he hasn't lost his touch.

That first shock reaction he makes when he swings his arm out, pretty crucial, it isn't until right after that that it looks like he really perceives what is going on. And it startles the guy with the gun. They both freeze up for a second
