For reference, Wasted, I'm going to get a pair of great shoes after the holidays. There's a cobbler in town and I think I'll make out quite well.

Work wants me to go in today, but I think I'm safe to say here that I'm going to tell them I'm out shopping until about 7 tonight. It is, after all, Christmas time.

Mosh, if you have the chills/fever and a sore throat, that could be strep throat. Get that checked. If it's strep, the good news is that it is easily cured with antibiotics. Bad news is it's potentially fatal if untreated.
Well when I posted that I had the chills pretty bad, but this morning I felt really hot. Right now it's a headache and sore throat.

With such symptoms, I wouldn't immediately think of antibiotics. Naturally a doctor should know best

Hence my advice: "get that checked." No one said anything about going straight to antibiotics. Get a throat culture from your local clinic -- they can diagnose strep in a few minutes if that's the problem. And, if it is strep, then and only then do you take antibiotics. If you have strep and don't take antibiotics, that could be really, really bad. Advising people NOT to take antibiotics if they have bacterial infections is simply irresponsible.
