23 pages of unread posts in this thread alone ..... not to demean everyone's hard work here, but I may give that a miss.

The Monty Python clips above reminded me to check out this clip, which I'd been thinking (and chuckling) about recently:

I'm a journalist.

Ah, cool. Local press or bigger?

I'm starting to think the racoons are cute, actually.

You don't have much choice anyway. I remember when I was doing my civil service (in a sort of educational facility in the middle of the forest), we used to have this huge office where we'd hang out all day and play card games unless we had children to take care of. One day, our superiors came in and said, "alright let's empty this room now, get everything out!" Two weeks later, the wall was decorated with trees, and all the space was occupied by preserved animals. We were crammed into a tiny place where we had to squeeze behind the desks. So yeah, I've got my experience with racoons in the office...

Although we did eventually get a bigger office. It was pretty isolated too, and in the last week of my service, I was all on my own and blasted Iron Maiden on the stereo, which they kept there, for some reason. I had my feet on the table and read. There was simply nothing for me to do.

And of course, I had to watch it in the library. Do you know it when the urge to laugh becomes even bigger if you're not allowed to laugh?

Cool! You have to show me some of your writing on occasion. Do you have any heavyweight topics?
I used to consider some sort of journalism as my career path, and given how stumped I feel at the moment, I am re-evaluating it again.

The agency I work for provides outsourcing services for a British communications company, called M2 Communications. My job is to monitor British print and electronic press, summarise the key news for the day and then write articles on various topics, depending on the industry in which different clients operate. The articles are then distributed to M2's clients in the UK, who post them on their websites.
Those here are written by me. Not my favourite topic - search engine marketing, but at least they are the easiest to show you.

I do the same for a couple of clients in the US, but the UK is my main domain. :)

Ariana, were you biting your tongue when we had a discussion on the smartphone a short while back? This is certainly something I'd like cornfed and other unbelievers to read as well, since they discarded a blog that I posted -and which made the same point- as quickly has they could:
So, smartphone addicts: you work longer and have less time for other people and matters.

Actually, I can imagine that discussing such subjects might not be the nicest thing to do because it could feel work related? Or not that much?

No, not really. But these things sometimes just slip my mind because I write about ten of these every day on a wide range of topics, so I sometimes write them and forget about them the moment I close the file.

The job is actually not as creative as I would like it to be because I'm restricted in terms of space and structure, so I sometimes do it almost automatically.

That was the reason I avoided getting a cellphone when everyone else in the world was buying them. I knew work would be after me seven days a week and I didn't want to go there. Still don't have one.

Are there good job opportunities in Europe? Over here, traditional media opportunities are shrinking and new media is fragmented and depends a lot on user-generated content.
