Just played a game of chicken with a family of otters.
They set up a den under my dad's deck and they weren't happy about sharing with me.

Side note... I'm sitting at the table with my daughters (almost 16 and 13), listening to some really loud tunes. Queen, Bon Jovi (shut up, i like it!), Nirvana, Journey. I love the fact that they dig it so much-- as much as I do!

OK, is that the ultimate test of a band, that they can capture more than one generation?
I'm not sure about Nirvana, but my daughters are the same ages as yours and they love all three of the other bands, too.

Semi-related side note. Very good friend of mine wants me to see Journey with him.
It's his favourite band and I've dragged him to some shows before that weren't exactly his cup of tea.
I like some of the band's stuff but I'm not sure I really want to drop big coin on a ticket.
Thoughts?

I agree! I like that these bands I dig are multi-generational and still have an impact on my kids. I know it's different for them than me (as far as the meanings of the songs), but I like that they really enjoy them.

As to your question, Journey was an epic band, IMO. I love most everything through Escape... However, I dunno if they are the same without Steve Perry singing.... I wouldn't go so far as to say its like Queen without Freddie or Queensryche without Jeff, but Perry really was the part of Journey that I liked. However, if you aren't all that familiar with them, I'd go.... the guy they have to replace Perry does a pretty outstanding job of sounding like him, and I think you'd enjoy it. Drag out Stone In Love, Feelin' That Way/Anytime, and Dont Stop Believin' (yes, maybe cliche now, but it was pretty outstanding) and get in the mood....

The Separate Ways video was the most embarrassing video of all time...other than Billy Squier prancing around his apartment in the Rock Me Tonite video. Btw, I put old Squier in at least the same league as old Journey, which I love.

Heard a great recent interview with Squier where he talked about how that video destroyed his career and how that was probably the first time that had ever happened to any musician.
He talks about a series of circumstances leading up to him being on that set saying "I don't want to do this." The record company guy says "go ahead, it's just a video. What could it hurt?" So against his better judgement...

Couple other cool bits of trivia: he pays the bills these days with royalties from hip hop artists, who have heavily sampled his stuff. And he spends most of his time working as a volunteer warden in New York's Central Park - he lives right beside it.

Nice to see another Squier fan. Don't run into many these days. If you haven't checked out his later albums Tell The Truth from the early 90s is excellent.

Um, this is interesting...
