Yeah, it's just such a great song. How did I forget about it all these months? And this intro is one of Maiden's best.

Well, I'm not such a big fan of it. It feels a bit too much like different things have just been thrown together. However, the instrumental mid-part is great, among the better moments on The X Factor.

Guys, next week I will take stuff from my Maiden collection to showcase it on my work (National Library). There is a glass cupboard in which collegues can show things of themselves and tell a little story about it on intranet. I am doubting a bit what I would write about Iron Maiden. Lots of people have not much in common with metal and might even be prejudiced. I would like to try and take away some of those prejudices but maybe I should just tell what I like about this band... Besides the musical aspects, e.g. I'd like to tell them about the success they've achieved without getting commercial, without conforming to others. Difficult.... Ideas are welcome! How would you present Maiden to your collegues (in my case that's more than 200 men). What would you like them to know?

My priority would be to show the diversity in the discography. People who are only a little into rock music and have heard only a few Maiden songs seem to think they all "sound the same". So give them both in-your-face uptempo songs like Aces High, varied and more complex songs like Infinite Dreams, epic songs like Alexander the Great, and singalong-friendly stuff like Brave New World.

As prejudice against metal often goes in the vein of "it's all about death and destruction" or "not another band singing about saving virgins and slaying dragons" (not counting the religious kind of prejudice, I doubt there are many in Holland who think Maiden are evil and satanic) - highlight songs inspired by history, literature, or 'Arry's troubled mind.

Thanks man. Looking at where I work, the history and literature references could be the most appealing aspect indeed. I need to get an overview (Iron Maiden Commentary). And I remember Perun posted a Maiden/history timeline once.

I suppose that what EW said is the most obvious link. I'm pretty sure that if you'd put a few records in the showcase along with some books, e.g. Rime of the Ancien Mariner and Lord of the Flies, together with a book on Alexander the Great, that will make quite a few people wonder how that all ties together. I would probably center everything around some interesting, eye-catching work of art that doesn't directly refer to any Maiden song, but does serve to illustrate or illuminate a certain thing that either forms a long standing idea in their music, or that reflects my feelings for the music.

If you want to, I can give that timeline I posted ages ago an overhaul to make it more appealing. I remember it was okay, but not as good as it could or should have been.

Strong idea to also put books on the shelves (even if they would not be my own, I could try to borrow them from the library's own collection! :) ).

Sounds like an original and interesting idea, although I am not sure what kind of work of art I'd pick. You meant a non-Maiden artwork?

I'd really appreciate that, mate. Lyrical content is not my specialty and the upcoming weeks will be a bit busy for me (Friday the 9th is the day when I bring the stuff to my work, and when the piece will be shared on intranet), so this would certainly save me time. Don't put too much work in it (I assume you also have other stuff to do). Names of events in history and songs would be great already.

I was listening to "Infinite Dreams" the other day and it did get me thinking about how this band has written such class songs right throughout their career. You could take a track from any album and hold it up as a "classic". Consistency is the key for them.

In other really exciting news, Leonard Nimoy is finally going to appear in The Big Bang Theory (in voice only, I gather). He will speak to Sheldon in a dream. :D

I don't know, it'd be too much of a tease if it was voice only. I think they're bound to show his face at least once. But yeah, looking forward to that episode!

Today, for the first time since I moved to Oslo in December and started walking to work, I saw the sun rise while I was on my way to work in the morning.

Um....I'm pretty sure the world doesn't need to know that.

In other news, its been super busy at work! I'm enjoying the Clonzilla we have set up here-- I'm setting up 6-8 new PCs at a time with it. Just finished off a dept of 12, working on a group of 8 right now. I have 16 more to set up over the next few weeks.

I'm glad that killing isn't my business, cause business is good!

I believe that today calls for a chance of Infinite Dreams and a scattering of A Matter Of Life And Death.
