I think that tune is quite popular across Europe. More countries have adapted it for use as their national anthem (or royal anthem) in periods.

I think the Dutch anthem has a great melody, by the way - as do the Russian and German ones. I also quite like the Swedish one. The Danish, though, has a quite odd melody which doesn't invite that much for singing along (or, the beginning does, but if you don't pay attention you lose track towards the end!)

I'll pay extra attention to the Danish and Swedish when I hear them. I like the Russian a lot as well. The only good national thing they have.  :D

meh.  I'm bored.  It's Saturday night, I'm sitting in my recliner watching NASCAR-- at least the speeds are over 200MPH (I have no idea what that is in KPH, but its fucking fast!)

When that is over, back to That 70's Show, season 2.

I'd really like a footballer to actually bother to sing it in the first place. There are the odd exception (Terry, Beckham, etc) bit the rest barely move their lips. And yes, the "dur dur dur dur" is like second nature for us plebs in the stands.

And I have a feeling most of them are only mumbling along when the TV camera is in front of their face.

Been watching the 6 Nations (as I normally do at this time of year) and one of the talking points is the "swallow dive" that Chris Ashton does to score a try.

He has scored 6 tries in two games and done this dive at least three times.

France are up next for England and I reckon this will happen:

  • The score will be 19-20 in Frances favour.
  • 81 minutes will be on the clock
  • Ashton will latch on to a pin point pass from Tindall and his run for the try line will cut the French defence in two.
  • He will run to the posts to score a try, do a "swallow dive" and drop the ball in mid flight.
  • As such, he will not be in control of the ball when it is grounded.
  • Knock-on will be the ref's verdict and the game will be brought to a close.
  • England loose and the new golden boy will be blasted from all sides of the media.

Ahhhh, it's great having my hair short and cool.

Java going pretty well, I planning on finishing a couple of exercises and a another chapter of the book by the end of the day.

Also, Megadeth are coming to Israel! A month after I join the army, 16/4. Thank god it's on saturday, I would'nt have been able to come otherwise.

Yeah, I hope so to. They will be the second band I see, after DT.

Crap, the java book has a chapter on graphics, and the basically give you about 10 lines of code and give you stuff to do. NO examples, no explanations, no nothing. i have no idea what to do. I'll just skip it, it was for "enrichment" anyway.

I don't know whether the leave system works the same way in Israel as Finland, but I'd assume there are at least some similarities.  We had a set number of days of leave that we could use during the entirety of the service, which could be used whenever you wanted if you had an acceptable reason.  So, if you can't go otherwise, try these:

Relative's funeral: Grandparent works best, though it's easiest to check.  Ours never were checked.
Girlfriend's birthday: she doesn't need a birthday to be on that day and it even works if you don't have a girlfriend.  You could also try "relationship problems".
Something important related to studies, eg. entrance exam: might not work for you since you're 3 years in the army.
Job interview: Only works when you're getting out, but keep it in mind 3 years from now. ;)

We have that, but I'm going to a 6 days a week course for the next 6 months.
I'll be staying there too, so there's no way I'm getting out. I mean I COULD fake being sick and whatnot, but missing a day of this course is a very, very idiotic thing to do.

Is going to the army mandatory in your country?

Here in Serbia, the government brought a new law a month and a half ago, so that the army isn't mandatory anymore, and I'll never have to go...

No basic training at all? Interesting, but makes sense in your case.  How common is that in the IDF?

It's non existing.

This thing I'm going to is basically a pre-army course: I'm technically not army property while there, but I am wearing the uniform. Once I finish the course I'm off to basic training for a couple of weeks, and then I'll settle in my job for the next 3 years (well, the job place anyway).
After that It's 2.5 more years of service, and then I'm free.

Not bad... In the U.S it's usually 3 year contracts. In Mexico we have obligatory service for 2 years, but you only have to go Sundays. On top of that, they've reworked it where it used to be if you wore glasses or had a disability that prevented you from doing the physical service, now those folks do social work like teaching people to read and write and that sort of crap. Obligatory military service in a neutral country... :D
