...and you don't have to fuck with drivers. Which is easier and easier on Linux nowadays.
Quite. I only have one bit of hardware connected to my laptop that needs a little driver manipulation - my DTV USB stick.

As for transferring files to/from your Mac - can you RDP out from a Mac to a Windows box? If so, there could well be a setting that allows you to add a folder of your source box (Mac) to the destination (Windows) that you can then see in your RDP session. I have two ways of transferring files to/from my WinXP box to my Ubuntu laptop.

1. I set up sharing on my Windows box and use a Samba based program to make the shares available on my Ubuntu laptop.

2. I RDP to the WinXP box and set the "-r" switch to make my home folder (this could be any folder, not just your home folder) on my laptop to be visible within my RDP session. This folder can be seen when I click on "My Computer". This means that I do not need to switch sharing/smb on on either machine.

If you are asking if you can remote from OSX to a Windows desktop, you can.  There may be other apps out there, but the one i've used is Apple Remote Desktop.  Of course, I'm also using this on an active directory network with the Mac bound to the domain.  Not sure what your setup is or if this would apply.

There is probably an easier way, but I did as Loosey suggested with the sharing, then I could see the PC under sharing.  At that point, I just copy & pasted the file to my PC.  I haven't tried to RDP the Mac to the PC (or vise-versa) but I will play around with that for the fun of it.

OK, I don't know about that (I have almost no knowledge of Macs), but I was specifically referring to RDP to a Windows box from whatever. For example, from my Ubuntu laptop to my WinXP box, I type:

rdesktop WinXPBox -uMyUserName -pMyP@ssw0rd -g1168x730 -ken-gb -r sound:remote -b -r disk:HomeFolder="/home/myhomefolder" -a 16

I log on to the WinXPBox and I will see a shared folder:

"HomeFolder on my-laptop"

And that is all done through terminal?  Does that, in the end, have the same effect as the RDP gui that Windows offers?  I can RDP, type in an IP addy, and run that compy on my screen.

Albie, you could use a Mac no problem. Like I said, OS X is now a Linux-rated system. You'd feel right at home.
Wow, n00bs in the 100k thread! They're growing up :)

They are!!!  I used to post here, before I posted most other places, trying to learn the 'lay of the land'.

It's always nice to see new contributors!!  Hell, the other day, I'd swear it was almost as crazy as H's bday a few years back when we dumped 200+ posts in one day here.

Ahahahaha I remember that day.

See, what's going to happen is the new kids will realize a lot of the running discussion that's been going on in other threads should be coming here. It's perfectly normal to interrupt a long detailed conversation about computers with something like:

Fuck. Paschendale might be about to be knocked out of my #1 spot, and that scares the shit out of me.

Yep!  That does sound scary, but I remember when Paschendale knocked out Rime for my top spot.... freaky but so right.

I just finished watching a Sammy and the Waboritas concert from ST Louis on netflix....so awesome!!

We need a Maidenfans party at the Cabo Wabo Cantina... :)

(I'd ask which song, but I wanna listen to the whole album first ;))

Let's just say this:

It's the song I've been waiting for Bruce to write for 10 years.

It's a fucking brilliant song ;) -it's what you liked since the start right ??

Wow.  That is cool-- I look forward to that!!

So, I was pretty excited for the 16th to come, then I realized thats a Monday.  And I never see new stuff on a Monday, it always shows up on a Tuesday here...Which means that I hafta wait til Tuesday to hear it..... However, that may give me enough time to get the CD player installed in my car, so I can buy it at lunch and listen to it all afternoon and on the way home...

I went yesterday to a mall to ask for the album, it was not available.
They took my cell number and they'll call me during this week  :(

Coming Home, I suppose. That's a beautiful one.

Immense lyrics. I wish I could express how I feel about these incredible Bruce's words, but I'm sure that LC will do that for me soon.

This is pure poetry and should be posted to our relative thread.

I spoil the below for Wasted's sake.
I wonder if the phrase 'what we've done' is a reference to SIT tour and the Ed Force One experience...
