Re: Judas Priest Survivor FINALS: 3 songs left (Feb 22-24)
When we came to the last 10, I decided these would be my top three choices (followed by Dissident Aggressor and Victim of Changes). After those last two went a bit early, I'm pleased to see those three songs on top.
Each of them have their own qualities, three quite different songs.
BTROD is part ballad, part heavy (something that I think has inspired several Metallica songs, Fade To Black being the first example) and contains a lengthy (and brilliant) solo by Tipton,
The Sentinel is a more riff-based classic heavy metal song, and in my opinion it's a song well fit to define the proper sound of 80s heavy metal.
Painkiller is just a 6 minutes unleashing of fury. It knocks you to the ground with the massive drum attack, and then delivers what those drums promise.
To actually choose between the songs? Well, the first is probably my favourite Priest song. So, should we keep great riffs or fury and speed?
I go for fury and speed this time, so my vote goes to The Sentinel.
