Judas Priest Discography Discussion (part 2 starting page 20)

Going back to bonus tracks, might've been mentioned but "Fight For Your Life" from the Hellbent For Leather/Killing Machine re-release is basically "Rock Hard, Ride Free" Version 1.

Interesting, but thank God they reworked it for Defenders of the Faith.

I'm not a fan of the Ripper era, and I have not listened to these songs for a long time...

I can't get enough of "Cathedral Spires" at the moment. Great song.

Priest’s “Race With The Devil” was actually included on Slacker’s 66 Greatest Metal Songs Of All Time list, funnily enough.

Thrash? Cathedral Spires is possibly the slowest song on the cd. Painkiller is the closest song Priest ever had to thrash

Painkiller is pure speed metal ! All of the songs form Jugulator are in very heavy style (thrash metal) - Cathedral Spires starts slow, but then the heavy riff comes.

and the two Ripper albums are almost not melodic and lacks from a good chorus - not a classic sounding Priest !

Well, well, well.

Looking into the Ram It Down era of Priest I discovered something rather interesting. Around this time they spent a few days in the studio with Mike Stock, Matt Aitken and Pete Waterman, best known for writing some of the biggest pop hits of the 80s including "Never Gonna Give You Up", "I Should Be So Lucky" and "You Spin Me Round". Apparently they came out with three songs, "Runaround" and "I Will Return" (originals written by Stock, Aitken and Waterman) and a cover of The Stylistics "You Are Everything".

80s Pop Priest. What could have been...

More here, including a snippet of the Stylistics cover:

The current issue of Rock Candy magazine has a short interview with KK about this https://www.facebook.com/rockcandymag/

Painkiller is my 7th Son of Priest fandom. I think it's an all-time album, I just don't put it on as high a pedestal as others do.

Sound is excellent, songs are excellent, performances are excellent and Scott Travis adds so much
It was the right album at the right time and it cemented their status as the Metal Gods after losing their way for the previous five years.
And it's much more even than most Priest albums, with Metal Meltdown being the only weak spot.

I think where I differ from most fans is on the title track: love it, but it's just a bit too long and too pummeling for me to give it a 10.
Hell Patrol and Nightcrawler get easy 1os for me — the latter probably being a top-five song — but it doesn't have a ton of my top-end songs.

I don't wanna jump too far ahead in this discussion but this song is fucking incredible. Robs singing is just brutal.

Think it was only on the Resurrection re-release?

I've listened to Jugulator twice already and am nearing my third, in-depth listen for a review but...

...I really don't want to listen to this album ever again.
