Me too. While I'm happy to see it and Avalon still land in the top 40 after the newness of TFF has faded, I think it is one of the best things Steve Harris has ever done.

The apparition has bad lyrics,but there are very cool guitars ( solos and instrumental part),im not saying is a masterpiece but came on! new frontier is plain an boring,you are expecting to something to happen ,and the same feelling is FOR ME journeyman,i dont have problem with acoustic guitars i do love wasting love,but Journeyman for me ......i dont know simply i switch the song.
Also,the cover was the first step to fail,and the record has 3 or 4 good tunes,but for me Paschendale is not a masterpiece.
And about tastes of this forum,i know every body has but if i understand the table above they say that the Longest day is bad? come on,if back in 90 they put me this song and they say me that maiden would sound like this in the 00s, i would be more than pleased.Its just amazing,how a group of old dogs still can write such an wonderful song,it is just pure cinema! .
And moonchild? pffff.
Also for me is weird to see the Fear of the Dark bashing,its true that its not the best album but back in 92 was a succes,and Afraid to shoot stranger was Iron Mainden´s "unforgiven or enter sandman",you could listen to that song in radios or people wistheling the instrumental part.Fear of the dark was a decent succes back in 92,and the bad was no prayer for the dying.And i stand this opinion,i like 80% of fear of the dark album.

They're a light in the black in a sense (no pun intended). It felt like there was a black cloud over Maiden, and Steve penned uplifting lyrics in an attempt to uplift the cloud.
The table does not mean The Longest Day is bad. It means that there are a number of songs that people on this forum favor over it.
I like quite a bit of Fear of the Dark, too, particularly Afraid to Shoot Strangers, Childhood's End, and Wasting Love. I feel the later wto are on par with some of Maiden's brilliant-yet-not-quite-masterpiece material (like Aces High, The Prisoner, etc) and ATSS is on par with Maiden's masterpieces.

I am VERY surprised by Futureal's high ranking. It's not a bad song per se but in no way it it better than 'Wrathchild', 'Run to the Hills' and 'Where Eagles Dare'.

It has sort of... weird non-Maiden vibe. The song is a bit... faceless, with colourless atmosphere. And the faster, distortion part is just amelodic, I think. I can't discribe it better, sorry . And I don't know why, the Metallica's cover of that just STUCK in my head and it's... uncomfortable
