Re: Iron Maiden Survivor: Virtual XI round 1 (Oct 22-24)

I am a wolf in sheep's clothing.  :)

Why these 4 albums are not judged with the same point of view?
Maybe it's the Blaze bias + the early nineties are the least presented in the setlists.
Maybe that's why people find it easier to hit these songs and albums.

But I am only guessing, I totally don't think like that.

My main point is that the votes have shown that these comments are out of proportions.

Maybe people feel like it's like beating a dead horse? Outside this forum, Virtual XI gets ALOT of hate. It's a sore point in the band's career, they don't talk to much about Blaze or his departure with Maiden, while the situation with Bruce was crystal clear.

Trying to hide your deepest sins ?
By the way, I think Harris has used this expression also in another song

Re: Iron Maiden Survivor: Virtual XI round 1 (Oct 22-24)

VXI is the only album I don't have. From NP 'til VXI, Maiden's guitars just sound empty and lifeless to me. Don't quote this and go, "NO! Haven't you heard SotC, The Clansman or Mother Russia?" Yes I have. I love The Clansman, like SotC and Mother Russia is okay, but ONTHERECORD, the tracks from those albums have no energy and no passion. . . for me. It takes a lot away from these. Let's put it this way: if Rime was played with no emotion, no passion, no energy, it wouldn't be a classic. The secret to Maiden is their passion, and these albums are passion killers.

Not to mention Blaze. I think Blaze is an okay singer, but he had to fill the shoes of Bruce Dickinson -- not an easy task. His voice barely has emotion, so it fit in perfectly with the other albums, but that doesn't make the albums any better. If Maiden totally went back and redid all the albums (with or without Blaze) I'm sure the tracks from the albums would be a LOT more enjoyable. I just got sick of the empty guitars that started in No Prayer and kept continuing.

Because of all these reasons, I'm gonna lay off the VXI round. No point beating a dead horse.

Re: Iron Maiden Survivor: Virtual XI round 1 (Oct 22-24)

I have to agree with Reumeren.  Any time we see someone bash the Blaze era albums he gets a lot of angry responses from members who love those albums (something that is uncommon in this forum).  NPFTD and FotD on the other hand have far less supporters here.  Sure some like songs from those albums,  but I doubt you can find many who actually like them as a whole.  Instead a lot of people here love the Blaze albums.

Me three.

About the lack of comments on VXI - I think it's been done to death already, as someone pointed out. The production is mediocre, most of the songs are mediocre (the only standout song IMO is Futureal - yes, I feel that even The Clansman is more or less mediocre). I view this round as another blitzkrieg round (maybe we'll lose a classic to either Futureal or The Clansman). Things will get more interesting when we get to the reunion era.

Re: Iron Maiden Survivor: Virtual XI round 2 (Oct 24-26)

Lightning Strikes Twice: Blaze sounds like he is choking in the choruses!
The Clansman: the bass sounds like Steve was sleeping when he played the sleepy intro.
The Educated Fool: this song is totally emo!

Happy Forostar? ;)

Re: Iron Maiden Survivor: Virtual XI round 2 (Oct 24-26)

I just can't compare Virtual XI and The X Factor to older albums.
Those were the albums when Maiden changed it's style so both are much heavier and slower than the rest.
Same goes for "reunion" albums imho.
