IRON MAIDEN SURVIVOR #7: Results -> Hallowed Be Thy Name wins for the 6th time!

Eliminated after Round 39:
Dance Of Death - 13 votes
Revelations - 10 votes
Ghost Of The Navigator - 10 votes
DOD is out! What? For some reason I thought Revelations would make the Top 10. GOTN is an underrated classic.

I voted for:

Phantom Of The Opera
Infinite Dreams
The Book Of Souls

Same as the previous round.

“Aces High” is the best Maiden album and concert opener by a long shot.
For me are Aces High and The Wicker Man. I can add also WED, CSIT, SOTC, BQOBD, Moonchild, Futureal and Senjutsu for an album opener.
You actually think Hell On Earth is better than these 4 songs?
It's not about that. It's just that Maiden have so many amazing songs and different favorites and that's great. Sometimes you just prefer one song over another (a bit) because melodies, chorus, vocals. And it's perfectly normal to think that Hell On Earth is better than some old classics.

Tbh, Hell On Earth would have been my best and favorite Maiden song IF the chorus was repeated 1/2 times more. Now it's only my 2nd or 3rd favorite Maiden song!

The weird structure is one of the reasons I like it so much, similar to The Legacy, The Thin Line and to an extent, SSOASS. It is also extraordinarily appropriate for the closing song, IMHO.

Also it helps against oversaturation with the catchiest part.

And just to put my tuppence in, yes, I love Hell much more than many PlayClassics staples. Just as Dance of Death is my favourite Maiden song overall and I don't think 20 years counts as "recency".

I also appreciate weird structures (Thin Line, Seventh Son), but I want to be ''oversaturated'' with the chorus. It's too good not to be repeated again, especially since every other chorus in the album is repeated at least twice. In Thin Line and Seventh Son is the same. As for The Legacy, I think its second chorus/refrain is better than the actual chorus, which is only repeated once.

That's great to hear. Two masterpieces! Btw, I love the intros of both songs - one has a lot of singing, the other doesn't. DOD's 3-minutes long intro is a perfect example how to make a great long intro (with different parts) for a long song imo.

This is getting absolutely brutal now.

Voted for:

Trooper
FOTD
Wasted Years
Aces High

Surprised at POTO getting so many votes though.

I'm not a play classics guy by any means but I would put Phantom of the Opera up against any of the proggiest Maiden epics, including from the reunion era.

Eliminated after Round 40:
Phantom Of The Opera - 12 votes
Fear Of The Dark - 12 votes
Aces High - 11 votes
Infinite Dreams - 11 votes

Top 10 begins!

Phantom Of The Opera and Infinite Dreams miss out on Top 10 for the first time after 6 consecutive appearances. The Trooper and Hell On Earth make it to Top 10 for the first time.

Hallelujah.
  • Caught Somewhere In Time
  • Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son
  • The Book Of Souls
That last one was a tough call, but it was between TBOS and Powerslave, so TBOS has to take the hit.

POTO and especially FOTD are surprising eliminations. Aces High is one of Maiden's best classics! Top 10 songs for sure.

As for the stats, I'm surprised about Trooper and very happy about Hell On Earth.

I voted for:

Caught Somewhere In Time
Wasted Years
The Book Of Souls

All the songs are amazing, so it all comes down to small preferences - Wasted Years because imo the other songs are stronger (Aces High should have been in its place) and it's not in my Top 10 (maybe because they overplayed it in recent years, idk). CSIT, it was either it or Seventh Son, and I chose the latter because of its majestic feel.
