Iron Maiden News, Links, and Interviews

90% of males (conservative estimate) would kill to have as much hair as Janick when they reach his age.
He's losing it a bit at the temples, but he's quite clever in how he wears it (same goes for Steve).

However, when Bruce is mean with the flag, he is instantly transformed into William Hartnell :D

All joking aside though, Janick's hair is just one of the best things there is. LONG may it remain!

"We do all of our songs in MAIDEN, we do all of them in the original key," he continued. "We don't detune, like some other people do. We don't do any of that. I suppose if one day we have to, we have to, but we don't have to do it now, and I think the songs sound better as a result of it. They're meant to be played in that key."

Eeh, E minor is great, but so is D or C.

It’s a silly thing to brag about.

I beg to differ. The songs were written to be played in that key and would sound different played in a different one.

Kudos to Bruce for being able to sing the songs the way he does nowadays. He might sound strained, but still miles better than singing the same songs in the second half of the 80s when he was 30 years younger.

You might be overestimating "rock" writers' consciousness of the fact that what they happen to "find inside their guitar" is not necessarily what is best for the voice of the singer they are working with, especially when they are not singers themselves (which is why, for example, however great a singer he is, James LaBrie has almost always had to make great efforts to sing DT songs from day one in a live context - even before his 1995 throat infection) .
See how I have elegantly suggested that Steve Harris, John Petrucci and Mike Portnoy can't sing for shit?
Singers in most rock bands have great merit adapting themselves (and the ones who manage to keep their standards are generally those who have a very good hygiene of life - which is the case for Bruce), while pop writing is much more tailor-made.

I am well aware that some songwriters do not give a shit about the singer when writing songs that are nigh on impossible to sing, but the quote about the songs being written to be played in that key came from Bruce. ;)

To paraphrase someone also famous for oral orifices: "it depends upon what the meaning of 'to' is". :)

Kerrang Magazine Issue #12 March-April 1982

The Number of the Beast album Ad (I guess the fans became crazy when the artwork was revealed)
It's weird that there's no ad or mention to Run to the Hills in previous issues.

Eddie playing with a maiden. The magazine decided to make a story with Judas Priest and a penthouse girl called Cheryl in the issue#10 and they decided to make something with Maiden too. So here is Eddie doing it better. I attach the Priest story too.

I have those magazines! In the one with Maiden, there's a letter of a guy who says that Kerrang has become a bad magazine using softporn (or something like that) with bad taste and Kerrang answers that he shouldn't see what they did with Maiden in this issue :devil2::lol:

I know it means you have to upload it all again, but perhaps it's an idea to make a "1982 magazine scans/clippings/interviews" or whatever thread in the "The Number of the Beast" thread in the Song and Album Commentaries subforum. It's very useful information about that time period for people visiting that particular album subforum to learn from - The scans will be too easily buried in this thread and hard to dig out again in the future.

Yeah, I think you're right. I'm going to think about it. :)
