Iron Maiden News, Links, and Interviews

So Adrian wasn't that ''happy'' with SSOASS approach too? He was pleased the most with SIT. It's odd because he and band had a lot of artistic freedom and experimentation during 1986-1988 (the next one was from 1995 onwards).
I didn’t take from what Luisma said that Adrian wasn’t happy with the SSOASS approach. I took it that Adrian wanted to spread his wings and go more in the big melodic commercial approach that SIT was heading towards. After SIT Adrian had tasted what it was like if he had wrote a solo album and was probably wanting to write more and more stuff that didn’t quite fit Maiden. Stuff like the B side reach out.

Steve probably sat him down and they discussed what ended up being SSOASS and Adrian thought ok I’ll stick around. When it came to NPFTD Adrian had had enough. He didn’t want to be a cog in the maiden machine and wanted more creative freedom. SSOASS was a stop gap which got Adrian to stay a bit longer.

Songs like Can I Play With Madness, Evil That Men Do, Clairvoyant and Only The Good Die Young are not melodic (and ''commercial'') enough? The other songs (Moonchild, title track and Prophecy; Can I Play With Madness too) are creative freedom imo. If you said he wanted more rock/hard rock songs, I can agree with that. He is also a singer, so one can see why he wanted to have a solo career (his debut solo album would have been better received if he had released it a few years earlier). I always thought Adrian was happy with the approach of this album too, but he was unhappy with the direction for the next one and the songs being played live too fast (unlike the hard rock stuff).

I don't play this game, but I like that they put the AMOLAD tank in there!
LOL, raking in the bucks! I remember Paul Di'Anno saying Maiden is just a money machine. I don't agree with that, but stuff like this is a little cringeworthy, in my opinion. But hey, maybe people enjoy it, so whatever..
