Iron Maiden News, Links, and Interviews

I think they sold a couple of t-shirt events with Eddie as a bull fighter or something like that. Shame. I hate bullfighting, San Fermines and all traditional festivities in some towns and villages where bulls are oppressed , scared and killed by bullfighters or 'people' (savages) of the worst class.
Spanish version of fox hunting.

Sorry, what happened?

In the context of the sentence, 2007 was when imo Rod became irrelevant. If you mean what happened with Beyonce’s father, Sanctuary made an acquisition to his record company but they inherited his debts as well so eventualy that led Sanctuary to their downfall and near bankruptcy .

Also here. Things would be completely different if this didn’t happen. The grip of Maiden in Metal business would be huge.

At some point they’ve lost it with Rod. Blessing & curse this guy for them.
If I had to draw the line when that happened I’d say 2007 when they lost Sanctuary Records due to Beyonce’s father mistakes.
They should have moved on much earlier though, if not prior BNW at least shortly after. To start fresh the new era with a more up to date Management.

That never happened because Steve never wanted to change. Part of the charme I guess?

I would say it is even worse. Fox hunting is a barbaric pastime for toffs; bullfighting is a barbaric spectacle hosted in massive venues and people pay a lot of money to attend that.
Absolutely agree with you.
Anyway, I've seen the episode and it's very interesting. The guy explain how that business works. He's very smart and he talks very well and much better than the Spanish matadors or people of the business.(which is very easy)
Bruce says he was in a bullfighting in Mallorca with his parents when he was a kid. Didn't liked it at all. And he says that he was in some bullrings a couple of times in Spain playing with Maiden. All these podcast are very interesting. I've seen the previous episode in which the guest is a doctor specialist in pain. The conversation is really fluid and very interesting. I've really enjoying watching it.

While I agree that bullfighting seems barbaric, I sure hope that the people actively railing against it are all vegetarians, otherwise they must have some amazing mental compartmentalization going on. Slaughter is slaughter, whether it's in a fancy ring, a meat packing assembly line, or someone's back yard.

I'm an admitted hypocrite on this issue, because I'd probably never kill another mammal myself for food unless I was starving and there was no other option, but I love the taste of meat and eat it all the time, so I'm not really in any position to criticize animal slaughter.

Sanctuary would probably become one of the biggest music labels in the world in 2010's. Rod and Andy bit a bit more than they could chew at the time.

I don't think it was a case of Rod and Andy biting off more than they could chew but that as the company grew they were no longer in control of it. Rod and Andy were sidelined by investors and their model of making money off legacy bands like Maiden was dropped and replaced with spunking money on advances for Beyonce.

By the time they inked the deal with Beyoncé’s father they were on the top of their game and they had definitely a say if not veto in important decisions.
I saw clear signs of sidelining a few years later, from 2005 onwards.
Companies will have this phase during their lifespan of investors injecting ideas and pressure, some they make the right decisions and have a future most they don’t.

Great, then I can rant about it. I will certainly never eat meat again as I feel so much healthier and fitter now.
But this is a completely different discussion than what I wanted to write.

Janick gave an interview to a German radio station.

He sees Iron Maiden as a live band and praises Kevin Shirley for capturing that sound.

He criticizes that today many bands sound the same because of the way they are produced.

The band members never fight when developing a new album.
He emphasizes what a surplus of ideas comes together when they meet. He constantly puts down new ideas.

They chose the album title because it can be converted into an interesting Eddie.

Thanks for sharing.

Maiden are indeed a live band. It's true what he says about the production of the bands.

With all those ideas, I really can't wait for the next album. I hope we can hear more of his new ideas someday - Janick is a fantastic songwriter and for the next album I would like to have more than 2 songs in the album co-written by him.

I suspected that about the title of the album.

Is the lyrics of Invasion not "The Vikings are coming, you’d better get ready for one hell of a fight."?

EDIT: also, Total Eclipse in 3rd is total bollocks. It's not even on the album.

EDIT 2: I always thought that the reason it was included on the UK tour was as much to do with it being on the 7 inch, when the rest of the album tracks had not been released yet, as it is to do with it's quality.

If I am not mistaken, Total Eclipse was dropped from the setlist at the end of the European tour. That was to be expected, considering that they played shorter sets as a support band in North America, but the band did not feel the need to play it again when they went on to headline gigs in the UK, Australia or Japan later in 1982.

"Total Eclipse" is on the 2002's version of the double-live album 'The Beast Over Hammersmith'. So, they've played it in UK in 1982.

My mention of UK headline gigs did not refer to the first part of the tour (i.e., the one that ended in Germany on 30th April), but to those headline shows they played in August. Neither of them featured Total Eclipse. The same can be said about the run of headline gigs in Canada and the USA at the end of June 1982. By then Total Eclipse was completely forgotten.
