Iron Maiden News, Links, and Interviews

Their own crew is probably being paid anyway, given they made the video for Aces High that came out in lockdown.

Who says they do?
You are always very cynic about the financial side, to the point of nicknaming British Lion "tax exile", while this has obviously more to do with the passion of playing live. You've got a very strong personal bias on the matter, with no direct information at your disposal and nothing to support your opinion, other than the very idea that everyone tries to get the more money possible.

I find performatively "rejecting" commercialism can be just as cynical an attempt at attracting a certain cohort of fans as being deliberately commercial. I like Steve's approach, if they get some hits or media coverage then it's nice but if they don't who gives a shit.

HoF is the problem, they've branded itself as an ultimate accolade.
To everyone, if you didn't watch Blackmore's comments on the HoF thing, please do.

Crudely paraphrasing, it's all about the HoF and not about Purple or Maiden. They are treated as paid actors.

So yes, Harris won't mind any support along the way. However I don't think he'd make any concessions either, if it didn't happen in 1978 or 1995 it won't happen now, that's for sure. HoF being the absolutist shitheads they are, wouldn't accept that nominee's band leader won't guarantee appearing there, because Maiden for sure is not going to make schedule around HoF's event. This is why the whole situation isn't going to happen.

I have never called British Lion (the band) tax exile; I have used British Lion as a nickname for Steve Harris, who lives in a tax haven and is, therefore, a tax exile. Being a taxpayer in the UK and having witnessed the damaging effects of austerity policies and tax cuts for the rich, I do not have any sympathy for Britons who are tax exiles.

Feel free to disagree.

Do you mean tax avoidance?
No Mr Everyones-a-tight-fisted-tory-bastard-except-me, I did not - I meant exactly what I said. I think it's apparent to most people that charities are treated favourably for tax purposes: that's the whole point of having them. There's Gift Aid for a start.

Gift Aid is definitely a good thing to make sure charities can get more money out of the donations they get. It would be interesting to know how many (rich) people use charitable donations to pay less tax though.

Anyway, this is completely off-topic and has nothing to do with Maiden’s efforts to raise money for stage hands.

I'm really curious how will this end up, that is, how will both sides approach and react.

On one hand, I can see Maiden refusing to play even if they are inducted keeping their image. It wouldn't be the first time they've done that and it would be the first time somebody refuses RnRHoF induction. The whole ordeal wouldn't hurt them at all, hell, they would probably get more positive reactions from the fans. On the other hand, new cancellations are on the horizon and it's going to be a very, very slow year. Last year music business did all kind of stuff to replace live concerts, but let's be honest - interest in those faded away pretty quickly and there weren't that many positive responses and demand for more. I doubt somebody will go through the hassle (and spend their money) on something that won't be appreciated and bring profit - Maiden included.

Considering RnRHoF, they had their share of refusals and I believe people in charge have heard Bruce's opinion on them. This nomination could be throwing them a bone (like with Judas Priest last year) without actually considering inducting. But, Iron Maiden has a huuuuge fan base, way bigger than those other candidates. Music is business after all and I imagine they don't care that much about eventual controversies if they calculate it would bring them some kind of profit in the future.

Although I don't see any scenario that could surprise me, I wonder how will both sides spin their stories in the public.

When I was looking to buy An Introduction to Virtual XI, basically a demo with the first 3 songs from the Album unmastered, which I did end up buying and uploading on youtube (btw yes it does sound better) I stumbled upon this archive of some forum post
Dude mentioned a "raw mix of Losfer Words" which really intrigued me,enough to actually hunt and buy the CD.
It was a bit of a thriller since I ordered it around October, last update was in November, I got a refund in February and bought a new copy then 2 days later the CD came so I'm waiting a second copy.
I dumped and upload on Google Drive the whole thing plus scans using my phone cause my scanner broke down.

So there was this magazine called guitar techniques and the March 1998 copy had a CD about Losfer Words with backing tracks and all. It also has an interview and narration by Nico McBrain. There isn't anything copyrighted in the CD so I'm sending the FLACs here.
I hope this is the right thread for this, here's the tarball:

I am really puzzled on whether these are the legit multitracks or at least maiden playing or some cover. I know the small parts of rhythm guitar found on the drum and bass track aren't maiden cause the narrator tells so. There are some credits on the back of the CD but I believe they are wrong since the track called original harmony is actually a part of the original thing.

Hello! I have that CD. The tracks are definitely a cover and not the original tracks.

Ah sad, I bought the CD for this specific "rough mix". Any other obscure cds to look for? Any alternate versions of songs like the running free demo or the women in uniform german version
