Incredibly "stupid" commentary on Iron Maiden

Slayer got signed as a band after a manager saw them play Phantom of the Opera on stage, so he probably knows what the first three are.
You are right. Listening to Show no Mercy, one easily realizes how influencial early Maiden was for early Slayer. Comparing Maiden's setlist with Slayer's (and I'm a huge fan of them) just show how stupid his comments are. As Foro previoulsly said, he has a long history with Maiden, and this harsh comments are surprising. I remember seeing a documentary (I can't remember when) with King in Maiden's backstage, comparing his pass with Eli Roth's, and complaining his was shit, while Roth had access to more areas.

That is very true, only recently i got to hear Slayer's first album and the influence is pretty obvious.
And the documentary you mention is Flight 666, @harrisdevot ;)

Guys, you're talking about Kerry King as if he was some sort of intellectual, or somebody who has an idea what happened five years ago. Come on...

Lol i'm just amazed at how shot in the foot Kerry was with his remarks

I'm serious about this: We shouldn't give his comments too much weight. I doubt he actively remembers touring with Maiden. It's something we, the fans, know because we care for this sort of trivia. But will he remember? Probably not distinctly.

Here's another thought about his comment on the first three albums: As we all know, Slayer released their debut in 1983. Many artists, especially ones that are as successful as Kerry King, lose their interest in new album releases once they get involved with music themselves. It's likely that King hasn't heard a full Maiden album after Number of the Beast. To him it all sounds the same because he can't invest himself to Maiden, and he's not particularly interested in it either. So yeah, he probably doesn't know what he's talking about, but he's also not a dedicated Maiden fan. He's also not a professional critic, so what does his opinion matter to us?

Cause it's not like he said he considers last 13 Maiden records total bullshit (which would be fine, it's his opinion), he suggests that everyone else also thinks that

Well, i don't think it's exactly a matter of actually caring about what Kerry says, it's more like discussing it since this is, after all, a discussion forum. Since many people seem to find his remark idiotic, the discussion continues, i guess.

Also, i think we have to separate 2 things: One thing is his opinion on Maiden's music, he's 100% entitled to have one even if many people might think it's stupid. A whole other thing is to say Maiden live in the past... You need to be totally isolated from reality to say that. Even if this was what Maiden did, i think it takes a gigantic dose of supidity to even say something like that publicly considering his band (and yes, i'm a Slayer fan) IS one of those bands that live based on their past, without trying to innovate and basically play the same songs over and over. Let's face it: Slayer are known for one album and 3 songs.

I guess what shocked me was how far from reality this "opinion" of his is. I'm a Slayer fan and many times i do not AGREE with this guy. But i don't think this is just a matter of agreeing or not, what he said is not only disrespectful but also false. Indeniably false, and that's why to me this is not a matter of agreeing/having an opinion.

And @Perun , although i totally get your point, i think you have to admit that it doesn't take at all much work to know that Maiden are selling out venues basically everywhere they go and, also, playing a hell of a lot new material, etc. And i think (opinion) that it's impossible that he doesn't listen to a full Maiden album in more than 30 years... I mean, he's a metal musician...

All those things are not relevant to his point, in his opinion. It was just an offhand remark in an interview, sometimes people speak more than they think.

He said something 'controversial' so heavy metal sites & forums would be talking about Slayer for the next few days
Obviously. I even studied journalism in Portugal, so i'm well aware of this kind of "strategy". That being said, i still think this discussion is appropriate for a Maiden forum. And Slayer will not be selling more albums, so... :p
