Here we go again...Iron Maiden sued over the rights of 6 songs

I think it should be noted that Troodon'sTooth does not represent the views of MaidenFans.
So your saying, that because I like Iron Maiden and because I disregard some lowlife (who is trying to steal their song credits), means that I am not an Iron Maiden fan? How does that even make sense at all?????

No, he's saying that you, an individual, are not the representative of everyone at MaidenFans. McKay has been reading through this thread and it's become a joke around here, and Wiz was adding on to it. He didn't say anything about you being a fan or not.

I was also making quite a serious point. As Bazza reads this forum and likes a good lawsuit any potentially defamatory comments about him or people whom he represents could get the forum in a spot of bother.

I think it might be useful to consider the distinction between truth and fact, because they are not directly interchangeable and both have relevance.

Fact is simple and objective (although the proof of it may not be): did something happen or didn't it? So here it includes such matters as: how many words or lines did Dennis write, and (assuming the answer isn't "nil") how much of the royalties attributed to those albums and songs belong to the words or lines written by Dennis? There will be an established procedure for working this out.

Truth is inherently more subjective and here it includes such things as: how much do Maiden's subsequent achievements really depend on Dennis' early input? Did he really push them in the right direction, such that without his help they might have missed out entirely? (Or was he leading them in completely the wrong direction and they only succeeded by breaking away from this? ) It's also entirely possible that the reverse is true, ie the subsequent achievements of Maiden are the only reason anyone is still interested in those songs, and hence the only reason they are earning any royalties at all.

@Troodon'sTooth has made an assumption regarding the truth and seems to be overlooking or ignoring the factual angle altogether, and his comments on Terry Wilson-Slesser's physical appearance, like the flowers that bloom in the spring, have nothing to do with the case (not to mention being very much uncalled for...)

On the other hand, Bazza himself is hardly in a position to throw any stones concerning defamatory comments, after his recent BM performance. He'd probably just tell us to go and, er, copulate with waterfowl or something ...

It's funny that I am reading this thread just after having a chat with a colleague from the Intellectual Property department.

Their most recent request from a client (a Romanian porn video company) is to check whether the actors wearing clothes with visible trademarks (Adidas, Nike etc.) is an infringement of copyrights because they have some claims on this matter. I can only imagine what kind of lawsuit could generate some music during the "acts". I know at least one person that could build something from there :)
